Makana receives rock-star welcome from staff of his ministry

June 30, 2010 (JUBA) – Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) Minister of Transport and Roads, Anthony Lino Makana, received a rousing welcome on Tuesday when he arrived at the ministry, as cheering service employees packed every inch of the compound.
USAID’s Economic Growth Team leader, David Gosney and team attended the reception party.
“Well, I am absolutely honored and thrilled beyond words,” Makana exclaimed. He was flanked by the widow of late Dr John Garang, former Road and Transport minister, the Undersecretary of the Ministry, Raymond Pitia, and highest ranking career officials, from USAID.
“So far, we are thrilled to have you here,” said the Undersecretary, expressing hope that Makana would make good on his promise to boost capacity building of the young engineers.
The Ministry of Transport and Roads might have been slow in the past few months, as the campaign and election period wound down and everyone focused on the legislative and presidential campaign.
Makana was reappointed by President Salva Kiir one week ago to continue his triumphant role in the crucial charged to foster infrastructural services in war devastated Southern Sudan.
The widely-lauded minister by the public has formidable political and developmental skills. He has been credited with having turned around potholes streets in Juba to paved-tarmac roads.
He stressed that whatever good work being hailed, he will work for the generation and realize the goals of Southern Sudan.” Makana recognized the efforts stepped to set the facility by his predecessors.
The thunderous applause grew louder when minister Makana told the management team he would be seeking their advice and welcomed a “good debate.” Makana was swarmed by employees trying to shake his hand and take his picture as he made his way through the gate of the Road Agency.
GoSS Head of Mission in Washington, DC, Ezekiel Lol Gatkuoth also attended the function. The crowd broke out into loud applause. Despite all the challenges facing Southern Sudan, the employees at the MTR are excited about Makana’s promise of a new era in leadership.
Makana emerged as unopposed legislative assembly bid in April. He said his tenure would be “a great adventure” but that the career staff should expect to work hard.”

This is how confidence and competence ministry leads his/her people. Congratluations to Mr. Makana for the job well done.
The worst and most absurd-character trait in a leader is dishonesty. If every south sudanese leads his/her people with honesty, south sudan would never be in this tribal-infested and decay-rotten leadership from the top.
Tribalism would be then the thing of the past. But most leaders are dishonest with tribal-mindset since the 80’s and continue to be so. This is where south sudan fails and will continue to do so if no more pragmatic and honest leaders like Makana in his ministry.
