July 5, 2010 (JUBA) – The global financial institution, the World Bank, has donated five vehicles to the ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries in the Government of Southern Sudan as part of its 64 million dollars intervention in the region.
On Monday the newly appointed minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Mary Nyalok Tiong, received the vehicles destined for five states to assist in the mobility challenges faced by the staff of the ministry in implementing projects in the states.
The ministry has been trying to carry out capacity building programmes in all the states of Southern Sudan where a sizable population owns cattle but unaware of the economic importance of their animals.
The World Bank supports several projects in various fields in the region and channels its financial support through the Multi-Donors Trust Fund (MDTF).
The MDTF under live-stock and Fisheries Development Project (LFDP) covers 5 states of Central Equatoria, Eastern Equatoria, Jonglei, Unity and Upper Nile states meanwhile the other five states are covered by Sudan Productive Capacity Recovery Project (SPCRP) and have already received their share since 2008.
“As we handover these new cars to you, I advise you that these cars are not abused, but for the work of Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries,” minister Nyalok warns.
“As your new Minister, I promise to closely work with you in all times, in collaboration with the technical departments of the ministry for the success and benefit in delivering needed services to our people in southern Sudan as a whole,” she assured.
