Egypt to grant South Sudan $300 million for water and electricity projects

July 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Egypt will give the Government of South Sudan $300 million for water and electricity projects as it seeks to build good will among countries along the Nile, the source of almost all of its water, Reuters reported on Sunday.

The grant will be used for building potable water complexes, drilling 30 wells for underground water, setting up river ports and upgrading electricity and water networks, Egypt’s Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Mohamed Nasreddin Allam told Reuters.

In May, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Ethiopia and latterly Kenya signed a new deal over the management of the Niles waters in attempt to replace the original colonial-era agreement that gives Egypt the power to veto dams and other water projects in upstream countries.

The Nile Basin Agreement, which took 10 years to negotiate has been rejected by Egypt and Sudan and may trigger a struggle for water resources in the region.

Southern Sudan, which will vote on whether it wishes to separate from northern Sudan in January, has a semi-autonomous government that is yet to form an independent position on the new agreement.

Should the South vote for independence it would create an additional country for the waters of the White Nile to flow through before it reaches Egypt.

Upstream states say that it is unfair for Egypt to keep its historic veto over projects such as hydroelectric damns along Nile as they wish to use the Nile’s water to support economic growth and development.

I don’t see the move by Egypt as a positive progress, because the only thing that convince Egypt to stuck its nose to South Sudan is river nile. This arab country has nothing to do with the people of South sudan, how many lives of southern where killed in the border of Israel and Egypt? Crap I will not see Egypt as an African country for what they had shown by acting like chameleone changing from this to that. I can’t be convince by money to pursuit short team relationship with an enemy. Better to be poor than taking money from a common enemy. This is all the way arabs used to convince Afrcans right from long time ago. Money Money Money, to hell with these money. Tomorow Egypt will start connecting (bond) South and north with such strategies.

Secondly this $ 300 million will disappear into the monster teeth of Goss gangs, nothing will ever be in South like promised electricity and water soruces. I am not new to the government of sick services lead by ignorance. From bush to town the criminal black arabs (dinkas) in South has never made a changes. Wild behaviours are still present in the government of sick services. People claim to be leaders but doesn’t know how to manage things. Why would a fellow brother like Lam be consider as a traitor if we actually think that we are wise? why would the worse insecurity in South appear to be in all dinkas states? the answer I wil predict is that DINKAS need attention, isolation and strong quarrantine nation wide. Fool should be deserted from the peace loving societies. Just like pigs and goats live in different farms.

Flattering, flattering Oh Egyptians!! They just try every avenue so that they can win their big share of Nile’s water with no opposition. I can not exactly see the point why the nation which is at the mouth of the river is so ambitious to have a big share of the river’s water when the nations which are the sources and which the river traverses do take it easy. What an insatiable manner!! The day I will be at that table of Nile’s water discussion, God is the only person who knows what they will hear from me on behave of the Southern people. If He (God) will.
