Sudan’s Eastern Equatoria state forms referendum commission

July 15, 2010 (RUMBEK) — The governor of Eastern Equatoria state has issued a decree forming a State Referendum Commission to be chaired by Felix Remio to enlighten the state population in civic education and enhance awareness of the population ahead of the upcoming referendum in the country.
Speaking at a community gathering during his visit to Lotuko Community of Eastern Equatoria, governor Louis Lobong said the state emerged as the best during April’s election despite some irregularities. He further said the state should also be the number one to vote for separation of Southern Sudan from the North.
Lobong described Torit as the first town where the Southern Sudanese’s struggle started in August 1955.
“Torit is historical place of our movement,” he said.
“Each and every one of us should now turn out positively for the separation of South Sudan from North Sudan. I call upon the entire citizens of the state to go on the streets for a peaceful demonstration in support of the South Sudan separation…” he added.
“Our box of hope is separation and this is my priority as a governor of this state to educate people in bringing out South Sudan from oppression government in Khartoum – solemnly for the separation must be taken up to sensitize voters earlier before two boxes appear in this state.
The referendum, which is part of the peace deal that is formally called the Comprehensive Peace Agreement or CPA, has been a source of tension between north and south Sudan even though both parties are supposed to work to make unity attractive.
Over the past five years, southerners have become increasingly frustrated at the lack of peace dividends and have openly favoured independence. The most prominent proponent became Kiir himself when in November last year he called on his people to vote for secession in the referendum if they do not want to end up as second-class citizens.
That call, the first ever publicly favouring a split, angered his northern partner and was described as a violation of the spirit of the peace deal.
The newly appointed chairperson of the State Referendum Commission, Felix
Okanyi Remijo, has presented a proposal requesting the state citizens who are either government employees or business people to contribute one Sudanese Pound (SDG) each month into Referendum Box.
The amount contributed will be used in supporting advocacy for Southern Sudan separation.

This has been in our blood and spirit since when we were born. It was passed on by our parents. The quest to be free in all aspects. The yoke of cultural colonialism must be thrown away in 2011. The shackles of slavery must cease in that year accordingly. Go for it Lobong!! The whole of South Sudan are with you. We are waiting to hear from Clement Wani, Yambio guy and the rest of Governors of South Sudan States without shifting position. TORIT is the beacon of freedom of South Sudan. No one can dispute it.

Mr Felix, you are being appointed by the SPLM govenor of EES, and in EES NCP are members are common on the ground with their nature habit of buying people if you cannot performed your tasks according to our expectations, then you will lose your life.
