Chairman of Darfur Conference meets Arab League delegation

KHARTOUM, May 4, 2004 (SUNA) — The National Committee on the Comprehensive Conference for Peace and Development in Darfur has extended an invitation to the Arab League to attend the conference.

Chairman of the National Committee Izz-Eddin Al-Sayed affirmed that all preparations have been completed for the conference and give a thorough briefing for the visiting delegation of the Arab League on the reality of the situations in Darfur.

He commended the concern of the Arab League with the issues of Sudan, calling on the League to sponsor establishment of an association grouping all Arab charity organizations to coordinate their efforts.

Rapporteur of the Committee Salman Suleiman Al-Safi affirmed the stability of the security situation in Darfur now, pointing out that the actual needs at present include lodging requirements and seeds for the farming season for the resettlement of the displaced persons.

He said Sudan expects assistance from the Arab League in the rehabilitation process, pointing out that Darfur problem is an economic one.
