Diocese of Bor launches fundraising initiative for retiring bishop

July 21, 2010 (BOR) — A fundraising effort to build a house for the retiring bishop for Bor Diocese in Jonglei state southern Sudan, was launched on Saturday.
At a fundraising ceremony on Saturday the congregation requested more time to prepare his home. A 17-member committee has been formed to coordinate the fundraising activities.
A letter from the committee that has been distributed to members Bor diocese and well wishers said:
“Before, during and after the civil war, Rt. Rev. Nathaniel had and has nothing for himself, no shelter, no little money to construct house and to continue his pension period. …..we would like to appeal the Sudanese population and the well-wishers of the world to contribute generously to this fundraising…..”
With around seven months left before for the Bishop steps down, preparations to choose a successor have yet to begin. No names have being publicly suggested so far.

It is important that society remembers those who serve them diligently. The initiative by the Episcopal Church of Sudan Dioecese of Bor to build a house for their elderly and retiring Bishop Nathaniel Garang should be a great consolation to all who serve in Christ for sake of freedom and salvation to come.
Bishop Nathaniel Garang is also a liberator who joined the Movement (SPLM) in 1980s and provided spiritual guidance to members of the SPLM/A. He and his colleagues in the New Sudan Council of Churches (NSCC) brought to the world’s attention the level of suffering in the South and how Government of Sudan was exploiting religion (Islamism) to enslave christians and traditional African religion believers. Hopefully, many Southerners will remember him for identifying with their cause.

Rt.Rev.Nathaniel Garang Anyieth has serve with faith and integrity wth the wish from Almighty God. Whatever people should contribute need to be put into right ways or channell if they are got. But why do people of Diocese are the only people who think fundrasing alone. it should for whole Southern Sudan because he was not serving Diocese alone but the entire country. During the war time, he sleep in the bush with people and lead people with the word of God.
His retirement was political motivated by those who like his post but non would not succeed. I wish he should in his position for another five years because Southern Sudan has not yet settle domwn with it problems.
Nathaniel is a true man of God!
may your prayer still guide Southerners into promise land i.e referendum of full nation in 2011

The two Garangs were a gift to Dinka Bor tribe
and entire Southern Sudan. They are gentlemen of
the high caliber. People of their kind are rare
this day. They have given up most part of their
lives for the betterment of the Nation to-be
(Southern Sudan). They owe much on us and
generations to come.
We shall be remembering you always and all the
time. Such fundraising must be communicated to
our concern southerners living abroad.
