South Sudan wants to establish fiber-optic communication system
July 26, 2010 (JUBA) — The semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) is pursuing an ambitious plan to establish fiber-optic communication network for faster and efficient system in the region.
This was announced by the Vice President, Riek Machar, during the official launch of a symposium on Information Technology (IT) under the theme, ‘Mitigating digital transformation challenges.’
In his opening statement which he read on behalf of the President, Salva Kiir, Vice President Machar said it was important for the government to link all the state capitals with fiber optic communication system and transform the government into an electronic government (E-government), which he also said was pivotal for public service reform.
He reminded the audience that the referendum for the South is only five months away, saying the 2005 peace deal has created an opportunity of peace and stability that should not be lost.
“There should be no challenges to plunge us back to war. Challenges are surmountable,” he said.
Ministers from both the national government in Khartoum and Government of Southern Sudan, in addition to 40 state ministers took part in the symposium on Monday in Juba.
The respective ministers of Communication for the national government and GoSS, Yahiya Abdallah and Madut Biar Yel, both stressed the importance of embarking on the E-government and extend the communication services to the rural areas.
The two-day gathering is expected to thoroughly discuss the status of communication services in the two regions of Sudan.

South Sudan wants to establish fiber-optic communication system
guys, please tell me if i’m wrong in this analogy, it seem to me that most of southern sudanese politicians are floating with the tides or they are chasing after the islamic wind in the north sudan. does it means we are going to buy the option of federation system in sudan as i could see now, some politicians are inline with Arab plan of developing south sudan. we are fish waiting to be caught with that baits. our greed for developing which is coming from north sudan will make us miss the golden chance guaranteed to us by CPA. if southern politicians mingled with northern politicians, then the poor grassroot individual will think that the country is going to be one and choose unity which is another hell waiting the next generations instead of opt with secession which is forever freedom. should anybody choose unity then prepare your kids to be called mohamad, ali, kadija. or hell is going to catch them upon resistance.

Woow, that is a right move, but don’t we have minister of communication in southern Sudan to announced what is his ministry work for, instead of Vice president to announced it or is it greediness of power from vice president maybe that is why he rush, and announced it.
