South Sudan to commemorate Martyrs Day on Friday

July 29, 2010 (JUBA) – The people of Southern Sudan on Friday, 30th July, commemorate the Martyrs Day in the region. The minister of Labor and Public Service, Awut Deng Acuil, has declared Friday as a national holiday for the occasion.

30th July is the day on which the former First Vice President of the Republic of Sudan, President of the Government of Southern Sudan and Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Dr John Garang de Mabior, died in a helicopter crash on his way back to Southern Sudan from Uganda.

The regional government marked the day for the memory of all the sons and daughters of Southern Sudan who died during the different phases of the struggle for freedom.

In a televised statement on Thursday evening, the Secretary for Administration in the SPLM, Southern Sector, Sophia Pal Gai, announced on Southern Sudan Television on the eve of the event that the region was commemorating all its heroes and heroines that died in the struggle for freedom.

She said the commemoration comprehensively goes back to 1800s during the time of Ngundeng Bong to the time of Anya-Nya I until the present time of the SPLM as the ruling party in the semi-autonomous region.

The head of the administration of the SPLM Secretariat said the martyrs had done their part and that it was upon the people of Southern Sudan to unite during this crucial time to referendum and make a wise “choice, not only for this generation but also for the generations to come.”

Senior government and party officials are expected to address the commemoration ceremony.

July 30th, should be remember by everyone in southern Sudan. This day should not be combine with devils like Ngundeng, and others which are not known yet. our martyrs who fought day and night without food, good shelter in bad rainy season, which include mosquitoes and they never give up the struggle.should not be mix with Satan. enjoy your money even when you don’t know how the came about. I encourage you all to join AWut Deng in celebration of martyrs day. I Know this government is so weak in many ways, and it will fall in next election according to what going on now. because ministers are not even active if vice is the one who will announce everything in government, what kind of government is this actually. we are only remember SPLA/M martyrs.

    Aarai Baka and Mack Awer,

I know you may hate what your great grand fathers did not participate in. You could have found yourselves today under the colony of British like of South African Apartheid if others, whether as tribes, did not sacrifice their sons and daughters to resist that British colony which aimed to occupy South Sudan land as in South Africa by white Africanos.

Do you think that it was simply a tribal war by Nuer and Zande? What if the Nuer and Zande did not fight the British and it continued to colonize and occupy Southern Sudan soil until today, would it be still a Nuer and Zande tribal problem with the British or would it be a general national problem involving the whole of South Sudan (all tribes)?

Please don’t hide behind Equatorian names because you are not Equatorians. Such uncivilized comments from you cannot come from Equatorians who think they understand political issues.

Yes, the son of Ngundeng Bong, Guek Ngundeng was the one who spearheaded that national resistence against the British and Turkey and made sure that the British withdrew and not stayed like the Apartheid Africano whites in South Africa. This history is already in many books written more than 80 years ago and there is nothing you can do about it no matter how hard you try to deny facts.

Don’t try to start history from somewhere in half. It is not like that. You need to go back to the basics. And try to reason like educated people.

I can not stand false statements. I stand for truth!

If the Secretary for Administration in the SPLM, Southern Sector, Sophia Pal Gai mingled clumsy illusion with July 30th,2005-the day Dr John Garang died in helicopter crash, then what can i said about Nuer in general?
I afraid about these people because the level of understanding could be compared to one, this is true.
