Kiir rules out south declaring independence unilaterally

July 31, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The president of the semi-autonomous government of Southern Sudan has ruled out declaring unilateral independence in an interview with Radio Netherlands Worldwide.

South_Sudan_flag.jpgSalva Kiir Mayardit, who is also the First Vice President of Sudan, told the Dutch radio station that he was committed to conducting the referendum on southern secession as agreed in a 2005 peace agreement between his party the SPLM and Sudan’s ruling National Congress Party (NCP).

Radio Netherlands Worldwide quoted Kiir as saying:

“I don’t think that there is any point where southerners will declare a unilateral independence. It is not up to us … up to the South to declare an independent Southern Sudan without the process that we have agreed upon.”

Southern Sudan is widely expected to vote for full independence in the referendum scheduled for January 9, 2011.

Kiir’s position appears to contrast with southern Sudan’s Vice President, Riek Machar, who told the southern parliament that a unilateral declaration of independence was an “uncomfortable” option but did not rule it out.

The NCP has said any such move will amount to a declaration fo war.

    Mr. President,

Yes, we need the referendum process to get our independence. But don’t completely rule out UDI (unilateral declaration of independence) in case Khartoum intentionally obstructs the smooth process.

Yes, referendum is the best, but UDI is a last resort to independence!

If northerners don’t follow the procedure of the CPA properly then we people of Southern Sudan are fed up with arabs rule. As a matter of fact, we will do everything possible in our capacity to separate from north. I mean by any all means Southern Sudan will get her full Independent by the year 2011 no matter what. Needless to say, if northerners think that War is the only option that will help them maintain their pathetic unity then we’re ready in whatever they decided this time.

Bravo Mr. President, we are not punch of burglars who renege their commitments, we (southerners) will go for the CPA full implementation as stated and fulfill our role until all it’s provisions are done, but in case those foxes in Khartoum tried to toggle our choice for self -determination, then our option will be the Southern Sudan parliament to go ahead and fulfill the choice of our people, we all know the scheme behind South/North border demarcation delay….it ain’t working …. we are going to vote for our self-determination on 9/01/2011.

This report was generated from Khartoum ;it must be discarded.
The NCP are now shivering about the fate away of South,so they are now making noise in the media, but their media is more than wailing.

SPLM is always respecting CPA,but Bashier plus his NCP group delay everything because they were hopping for undesire possibilities, but who care? that will be the last stage SPLM/A will response to them. What did they do during the war while they were being back up by middle East ,Iraq, China. Let wait 2011.
If NCP reject 2011 it i think that way the smoke will be smell.
    Thanks

Unless SPLA Commanders make a coup against Mr. kirr Administration for the sake of south Sudan Independence, It is apparently that Mr. Kirr is bending toward Unity and he can do that in forgery attitude with guns pointed to others and in turn for his personal Interest.

Ali Osman is in South Sudan Presidential House right these Days as a guest of Unity attractiveness program (6 Months permanent Stay) in Juba as he did in Kenya ( almost one Year along with Dr. Garang for Peace negotiation).

This man, i tell you will wash the brain of Mr. Kirr and others to the culmination of Unity.

Congreculation! President Kiir. Keep that saying alive. Don’t change that saying if you really want change in South Sudan. Bashir has no right to deflect you in any decision you take since you too has right and power as a first vice-president of the republic of Sudan and a President of the current existing independence South Sudan. Please General, let your idea not be discourage by any arogant creatures. keep practicing that saying and soon you will succeed it.

It is Southern Sudanese people excitement and enjoyment because our partners Northern Sudanese have not interrest in Southern Sudan independent.

Unilateral declaration will be the option for Southerners to achieved their dreams. Many people has dies for Southern Sudanese liberation because their lives has chase out Arabisation and Islamisation of Muslim in Southern.

In fact, Muslim is not the problem because the right can be accepted.

We need our freedom and declaration now……………………….. now.

Sudan is another to be divided in to two like ethiopia and Eriteria

    Dear Brothers
The CPA stipulated the right to self-determination,the referandum will come, and people of the South will decide. This is guranteed by the UN,AU,Arab League,no one is contesting it.
However, for those who like to agitate and play on emotions, they should also know what International Law says .
The South Sudan,is not a colony according to the UN,it is part of the country recognized by the entire world as the Sudan,a unilateral declaration of independence(UDI) therefore will have dangerous legal consequnces and may not be recognized by the world, for in this case it will be a secssion in from of insurgency,i thought to draw your attention to this legal aspect of the situation.
