By Ngor Arol Garang

August 8, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — The regional ministry of SPLA and war veteran affairs on Sunday lauded promotion of new generals by General Salva Kiir Mayardit, president of the semi autonomous government of southern Sudan.

SPLA_troops_juba-2.jpg Kiir, who, by the virtue of being president of the regional government becomes the commander in chief of armed forces, on Saturday promoted SPLA chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General James Hoth Mai to the rank of General and Major General Wilson Garang kuachrot to the rank of lieutenant General.

Twenty other brigadiers were also promoted to the rank of major generals. Barely after promotion gathering at military headquarters in Bilpam, north of Juba, President Kiir congratulated the new officers and urged them to be vigilance while carrying out their tasks in reformation and re-organization of the SPLA forces to provide adequate security to the people of southern during what he termed as critical moment in the history of Sudan.

Acknowledging promotion made by the president on behave of his colleagues, General Hoth thanked and appreciated President Kiir for confidence he has in them and assured him that the newly promoted officers will perform to expectation of the region. He said the new officers are known committed members of the army to fulfill the mission of the army without deviations from dedications.

In a congratulatory message signed by the undersecretary at the ministry of SPLA and veteran affairs, General Bior Ajaang, seen by Sudan Tribune, on Sunday said “promotion of the new generals has been made at the right time”. He added that this “promotion will boost morals and aspirations of the young officers for highest office”.

“This promote by the president will not only raise morals of the long serving young officers, it will also encourage and motivate them to continue to work hard and aspire for the highest office,” said General Ajaang, an undersecretary in the ministry of SPLA and veteran affairs.

Many in the region says these promotion come in the wake of concerns expressed by the middle and high ranking officers in the army at the slow pace of promotions to higher ranks whereby reducing opportunities of rising to higher positions.

The silly question on the site that conditions, how should the SPLA/M reacts when referendum is postponed! Really!

Are the people in the north still yearning for that? Have they ever been to south and see how autonomous the south is?
I guess the people never give up until the last second.

This is what I always say that Salva Kiir Miyardit is doing nothing. Reshuffling of the ministers by Salva Kiir Miyardit in his Administration will not help us we Southerners if we selected the same people always for the same position. This is an absurd management.

Dear mr President, promotion of only senior officers leaving junior officers who serve for more than 10 year is a catastrope, these senior officers were call two time within the CPA’s 6 years. other never, thus think again or else the junior officer are not favour by your authority.
