Kiir directs for prosecution of captured officers of renegade George Athor

August 11, 2010 (JUBA) – The President of the semi-autonomous Government of Southern Sudan, General Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is also the First Vice President of the Republic, has directed the legal authority in the region to prosecute the captured officers from the rebels led by the former SPLA General, George Athor Deng.

The officers including Athor’s third person in command were captured in a helicopter on transit at Fulluj airport in Upper Nile state as the plane was returning from Jonglei state to Khartoum.

The Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) and minister of Peace and CPA Implementation, Pagan Amum, announced the fate of the officers while addressing the press in Khartoum on Wednesday.
He said Athor’s officers were found on board the helicopter destined for Khartoum and were immediately arrested.

Athor rebelled against the government after he was declared loser in the April gubernatorial elections in Jonglei state against the incumbent governor, Kuol Manyang Juuk, whom he accused of allegedly rigging the votes.

    Bravo, Dr Mayardit.

We are tired of these savages with no vision or objectives, but to distract us from achieving our goals since 1991. Tell them that they must die or leave us alone achieve our independence. This freedom took 3.5 millions lives, and Athors live would mean nothing to us. Southerners will kill those paid by NCP to distract us from achieving our goal. This Son of Bitch was fighting Nuer during the struggle. Catch him and hang by his balls.

Justice must take its course. Athor with his comrades is lacking patriotism and vision. The captured traitors must face the music.

Logic your recidivation with tribals phrase at this stage is very unacceptable as we are very close to marks our independence prospectives we don,t again encourage those who attampt to instigate violences as politicals tool to get into top position without knowing his/her roles what to do like Athor Deng who been in the movement and never get single rules of laws.

To shows that you knowing nothing about the people who let us reached here just note down that no doubt that comrade Koul manyang Juuk was true and brave fighter who shall take his action without seek any advise from any one else in critical time or leisure time.

SO please if you wish to sell your self to the Nuer community for your future dreams you have to be true and take example from words attributed from Idi Amin Dada of Uganda he said ugandan love me because I used to tell them the truths they trust me and president Gadaffi of Liyba that is why we are called the wise and frank leaders in the whole Africa.Kur

The most important thing at this critical moment for Southern Sudan is reconciliation and forgiveness for the sake of unity of Southerners first. Remember that the Nobel Laureate, Nielson Mandel of South Africa, got the honour by honouring the value of truth, reconciliation and forgiveness.

Justice can wait if peace is at risk. Even most of the SPLM generals who are crying loud now have blood of the innocent people in their hands already. Call for their prosecution is just suspendend for future after we have achieved the independence and considerable peace.

Even I doubt call for justice that is highly politicized. It will not yield any good fruits at the end of the day. It will complicate things.

Many Thanks to kiir ,youshould follow it up to the end because judicial system is so corrupt. There is also need of security orientation among our security agencies in the South. I also prefer that helicopter to be detain.

the conflict resolution is about define the proplem before solution. I am capturing of one officer from hundered or thousands officers who were former Comardes and bipartisan of SPLA/M can not be the final resolve. The GOSS should have direct for prosecution early then this. Firstly, since ther security become an issues in Sudan. Another big mistake now we did not know the capturing of a gun men is a war. instead we push our leaders political nego we are pushing them for a war of which it will cost another people lives. I would like amicably solution to end the clashes among Southerners and create unity. I respect both commanders of SPLA/M and want them to come togather and unified to face only one enemy.

    James,
These people didn’t peacefully volunteer to return to SPLM and ask forgiveness. They were instead heading to Khartoum for medical treatment and as soon they recovered, they would return back to their base and start causing chaos again. I am glad President Kiir has permitted the justice to take its course. This madness must be put to an end by any means. Peace and reconciliation is one of the means, but not the means. The innocent civilians killed deserved justice and their killers must be punished.
