Darfur kidnappers file demands to release Jordan’s peacekeepers – report
August 15, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The kidnappers of the two peacekeepers who were abducted on Saturday have submitted their ransom demands to the African Union – United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), said a report published by a Jordanian daily newspaper.
The newspaper did not elaborate on the details on these demands.
Jordan’s Minister of State for Media Affairs Ali Al-Ayed told the official news agency Petra that the Jordanian foreign ministry is following the situation closely in coordination with UNAMID. The two officers were not targeted because of their nationality but because they are part of the hybrid mission, he added.
The two peacekeepers, Ahmed Abdel-Jabbar Al-Qaisi and Nabil Saeed Al-Kilani, were abducted on Saturday while they had been walking to a UNAMID transport point near their residence in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur state.
The region witnessed recently clashes between two groups inside Kalma camp, located near Nyala. The government has accused the supporters of the rebel Sudan Liberation Movement of Abdel Wahid Al-Nur (SLM-AW) of attacking IDPs supportive to the peace talks in Doha.
Sudan’s government also asked UNAMID to hand over six delegates of the IDPs accused of instigating the violence but the hybrid mission has posed a number of conditions concerning their treatment before they agree to hand them over. The wanted IDP representatives reject the charges and say armed men from outside the camp are responsible from the assault.
Reacting to the abduction, Paris-based rebel leader Abdel Wahid Al-Nur condemned the kidnapping of the two peacekeepers and urged to release them.
Al-Nur accused the Sudanese government and its militias in the region of abducting the two Jordanian peacekeepers saying, “this operation is part of a scenario designed by the Sudanese security aiming at destabilizing the security situation in the whole region in order to dismantle the IDPs camps in Darfur”.
The rebel leader called on the international community to react swiftly to humanitarian situation in the region pointing out that the IDP camps suffer from food shortages and epidemic diseases.
“This is the case not only in Kalma camp but also in other camps like Wadi Saleh in the remote area of West Darfur near the border with the Central African Republic,” he said. Adding that the, “World should not be an accomplice by its silence and participate in the ongoing Final Solution in Darfur”.
On Friday the top UN official for humanitarian affairs, John Holmes, called on Sudanese government to lift its aid blockade of Kalma camp.
“We need immediate access so we can respond to the needs and conditions of those remaining there [Kalma camp]. We also need to find out how many people have left, and where they have gone, in order to provide relief to them too,” Holmes said.
Since UNAMID’s takeover from the African Union Mission in January 2008, some 19 peacekeepers and aid workers have been kidnapped and released except one American from the Samaritan’s Purse who has remained in captivity since May.

I believe that, the International Community had let Khartoum to do every thing in Darfur so long as implementing the referendum in South Sudan, but to day as things’ failing a part in the South, the International Community is facing a moral decision, will it wait until the IDPs die by tens of thousands after that response? When will the starvation of the IDPs command a response? If the situation of those staved to death by the regime is not a cause for strong intervention, when will it be?
Regarding the issue of continues Kidnapping and appeasing to the UNAMID by the regime and its militias, I propose that UNAMID soldiers carry with them money in their pockets to pay these militias whenever threatened since they do not want to die for defending themselves or the innocent people. Please UNAMID go home and avert yourself further humiliation.

Yetsrday Ibrahim Al-Tahir Yestrday on Al-Jazeera TV Channel said that they will resolve Darfur problem by force, because they have a work to do in South of Sudan. Meanwhile he threatened SPLM/A saying that if Governemnt of South Sudan did anything of its own on referabdum; it will bear the responsibility of any agony people of South Sudan would suffer in the future. Haaaa; haaa the guy has declare a war against everybody in the margin. I am just waiting for that day to come. Its not you Islamist who are itching for war this time its WEEE WHO ARE YEARNING TO FEEDBACK WHAT WE LOST IN 55 YEARS OF INJUSTICE. Its not a joke you have no body to fight for you, only the poor Janjaweeds whom you fool them and pay fake money for their lives.
