South Sudan parliament names chairpersons of specialized committees
By Ngor Arol Garang
August 16, 2010 (RENK) – The Juba-based regional parliament, the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) on Monday named 17 heads of specialized committees and 18 deputies, four months after conclusion of April elections.
Three of the deputies have, however, declined the appointments. While none of them was reached for comment, many viewed their decision as protest for relegation.
Speaking during the sitting chaired by the Speaker of the House, James Wani Igga, Deputy Speaker, Daniel Awet Akot, reportedly congratulated the new appointees and urged them to do the best in the best interest of the people they represent in the House.
As you are the eyes and legs of people you represent, nothing is expected of you apart from exerting efforts to do best in the best interest, said Akot
Akot, while calling for united house as one of the pillars for strong parliament, urged the newly appointed officials to spare no efforts on referendum. The reason for establishment of this house to existence is to assist in implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. “This peace is entering its final stages, no efforts should be reserved. We must work for its implementation to the spirit of partnership as stipulated in the accord,” he explained.
Reacting to the appointment, the newly appointed chairperson for information and culture, Joy Kwaje Eluzai, while thanking speaker for appointment and congratulating her colleagues, called for concerted efforts on referendum. “As representatives of our people, we must first and foremost try by all means possible to try to work together as one and united house so that we become reference to other institutions. We must also work together with other organs of the government particularly executive for delivery of services to our people and for successful conduct of the upcoming referendum,” said Eluzai.
Following their deliberations, 17chairpersons and 18 deputies were appointed.

The Hon Wani Igga and Lt general Awet Akot have done an excellence job because their formation of committees will help them execute duty effectively as wanted by SPLM. This is a great positive progress since our young nation need experience leaders that will do they task. I recommended that those who decline are not ready for the job;therfore, there position need fulfilment. Thanks

Door,
This specialized committee is under the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly (SSLA) that will help in the implementation of CPA. These members have been proven active and they will be ready to facilitate the CPA effective. Those of Hon Pagan Amum will also assist them because most of their group are inactive and therefore, they need help from the house of speaker, and i assured you that Wani Igga and Awet Ako are commited leaders that can not play with words. Thanks

This is government too big for poor Southerners to support with their meager resources. It should be trimmed and leaned.
