Sudan’s Khartoum state imports 250 buses from Iran
August 21, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The state of Khartoum secured a deal with an Iranian company to buy 250 buses, the governor of the capital was quoted by local press.
The governor of Khartoum Abdel-Rahman Al-Khidir recently visited Tehran accompanied by Minister of Planning and Urban Development Abdullah Ahmed Hamad and managing director of Khartoum Transportation Ali Khidir.
The air conditioned buses are reportedly licensed by Mercedes Benz and can fit in 59 passengers. The accord with Iran Khidro buses also included 50 ambulances. It was not immediately clear what the value of the deal is.
The governor of Khartoum said the deal proves that the state is committed to providing high quality transportation services and it is not limited to a certain model as long as it is certified by technicians to perform.
The visit by the governor resulted in an agreement on building a water station in Sudan’s twin capital city of Omdurman. Both sides also discussed prospects for joint projects and encouraging Iranian investment in Sudan through bilateral visits.
