SPLM welcomes Bashir’s launch of pro-unity campaign

August 24, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – President Al-Bashir has announced that the government’s campaign for the promotion of Sudan’s unity will be launched in the semi-autonomous region of south Sudan whose citizens are due to go to the polls in January 2011 to decide whether to remain united with the north or secede to form the world’s newest nation.

He urged the Government of Southern Sudan to ensure fair and free conduct of the referendum and to enable southern citizens to cast their votes with freedom and transparency.

The SPLM has welcomed the campaign. In a press statement published yesterday by SUNA, the country’s official news agency, a senior member of the SPLM Luka Piong said that the law allows political parties and civil society organizations to contribute by sending messages to southern citizens and inform them to cast their vote in the referendum depending on accurate information.

In his speech, Al-Bashir cited the existence of a commission for the protection of the rights of non-Muslims in the north as a proof against claims of religious discrimination in Sudan. His statement comes against the background of numerous assertions by the SPLM that the issue of Shari’ah law in the north is a stumbling block to unity.

“The NCP’s desire to entrench a theocratic has thwarted the model of unity advocated by the SPLM” said the SPLM’s politburo in a statement last week.

Under the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement, which ended decades of civil war between north and south Sudan, the SPLM of south Sudan and the Al-Bashir-led NCP of the north are bound to attempt to amke unity “attractive” to south Sudan’s citizens.

But the implementation of the six-year deal has been marred by lack of progress and mutual distrust between the two partners, leading to a common belief that south Sudan’s citizens will opt for secession.

This referendum is the last opportunity that South Sudanese will ever have of ruling themselves for ever. Throw this golden opportunity into a Lioness’ den and you might never have it back. Of course the NCP will want to interfere with the referendum and manipulate the results into their advantage. SPLM has to be vigilant for the remainder of the time left till Jan 2011. South Sudanese should never believe what ever the NCP promises be it the abandonment of sharia law post referendum. Any promise now will turn out to be a blank cheque after 2011. Mark my words.

Albashir and his thugs of NCP should not be allowed to campaign for their fake unity in south Sudan. they would bribe southerners using money(which is ours) plus divide and rule tactics(their favorite ).

Is war only happened in Sudan and not other African Countries? Of course not!
I think the President of Sudan should continue working as usual and ignore ICC case as disturbing who tries to make him frightened and scary with this games, on the other hand it may force Sudan to seek more, or look for more military power in order to stand against this issue. Now we can see this new game have just united most African Countries against the President of Sudan where their aim has nothing to do to make African the better place but they preferred to destroy it which can be assume that their issue base on greedy wish while only few had got realistic opinion according to nature conflict of opinions. However, in African history very rarely where we have one country to one country, or groups of countries to other groups of countries conflict, or war. Anyway, to keep it short, all I know this new issue title is know as game and I hope we play peacefully so that it won’t bring disaster upon us. Second we just have peace in our homeland Sudan which most of us know and of course we need to rest for while and get establish, we don’t need any kind of war in this land at this time please, or go and make it some where else, please.
    Have good day!
