August 25, 2010 (ADDIS ABABA) — Ethiopia, the current chairman of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), today condemned the suicide attack carried out on Tuesday by two Islamic militants at the Muna Hotel in Somalia’s capital of Mogadishu.
The attack reportedly claimed at least 32 lives, including six Somali parliamentarians.
According to Abdirahman Omar Osman, the minister of information of the embattled Somali government of Sheikh Sharif, the two assailants were dressed in Somali government uniforms when they entered the hotel, which is less than a mile away from the presidential palace and home to several members of parliament.
The militants opened fire randomly and blew themselves up as government security forces arrived at the scene.
Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday issued a statement in which it said that “Al-Shabab and its foreign-based allies who are opposed to [the] peace process have deliberately continued to disrupt effort to build a stable Somalia.”
The ministry urged action against Al-Shabab, saying “it is time that collective efforts are exerted to bring an end to Al-Shabab’s acts of terrorism; there by bring peace and security to the country and to build a functional Somali state.”
Al-Shabab already claimed responsibility of the attack which took place during the Islamic month of Ramadan. The group said that the attack was in retaliation for Uganda’s role in the African Union’s peacekeeping force in Mogadishu.
Last month, Al-Shabab claimed responsibility of the two suicide bombings that rocked Uganda’s capital, Kampala, and killed 76 people.
At the AU’s latest summit in Uganda last month, leaders of the continent approved the requests made by IGAD for an additional supply of 2,000 troops to the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
The Ethiopian government further called on the international community to respond urgently and appropriately to the situation in Somalia as requested by the AU’s summit of Heads of State and the Ugandan government last month.
In its capacity as current chair of IGAD, Ethiopia pledged to extend authority’s full support to all measures targeting terrorism and to confront violent extremists in Somalia.
Ethiopia further extended condolences to the families and friends of those killed and injured.

Al shabab are the most worst enemy of human being in this world.Do they think they will go heaven after killing innocent people.where are the Islamic scholar to show these group of terrorists the right way to preach their religious.convince people with logic & truth, not by killing innocent people.
Bible says (In John10:10 Jesus said) The thief cometh not, but to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
what is the different between those thief, described by Jesus in the Bible. This reflect exactly what the Islamic terrorists are doing, they divid the booty, kill those who oppose them & destroy place where there is security.
there is agenda behind these terrorists
