W. Equatoria state sends high level delegation to investment conference in US

August 28, 2010 – Western Equatoria state will send a high level delegation led by the state governor to attend a US conference on investment. The conference which is planned to take place soon is being organized by the people originally from of Greater Equatoria who now live in the US.

The announcement made during an extra ordinary Council of Ministers meeting by the Acting governor of the state, Sapana Abui, who doubles as the state Minister of Commerce, Trade and investment.

The conference, the government expects, will usher in hope for the Greater Equatoria region which forms the three states of Western, Central and Eastern Equatoria, respectively. Abui said, “each state from Equatoria will send six representatives including the state Governor to attend the upcoming potential conference in the USA.”

The council resolved that, “three officials from the state government will be given the opportunity while three other delegates will be filled by capable private sectors including business men from Western Equatoria state.”

Organizers say Equatoria region is “to move away from an economy that is dependent on oil to an economy that will now seek the growth of agriculture as an engine of wealth creation itself.”

The region is seeking large-scale agricultural programs through private-public partnerships.
