New Yirol West county commissioner assumes office

September 1, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The newly appointed commissioner of Yirol West County in Lakes state, Makur Kulang, assumed office on Tuesday vowing to decrease insecurity of cattle raids and to conduct a peaceful referendum in coming January 9, 2011.

Speaking to Sudan Tribune, commissioner Makur said he wanted to reduce cattle rustling and exercise the law.

“I will work hard with my neighboring counties to bring justice,” he said.

“I have prioritized referendum awareness and security to be sustained in Yirol West County so that my communities to be seem as a leading in both registration and voting day in referendum. I need a peace among my County with their bordering states as well their neighboring counties”.

Fifteen bulls were slaughtered by the community to welcome the new Commissioner.

“I shall work hard with my neighboring counties of Awerial, Yirol East to reconcile people and also I will make sure all my community must participate fully in referendum”.

Kulang appealed to the Government of Southern Sudan to rebuild the mud road between Yirol West County and Rumbek Central County as many trucks were getting stuck and this was harming local businesses.

Road transport between Juba to Lakes state cut off by floods as well road transport between Rumbek the state capital with greater Yirol is also off due to bad roads.

Commissioner Kulang said that, there are so many big holes on road that a small car could not managed to cross – there are many big businessmen trucks which have overturn on this roads, I need an assistant from government of Southern Sudan to reconstruct Yirol road.

“I am military man, I have never dream to become commissioner but I appreciate Governor Chol Tong Mayay for having appoint[ed] me as county commissioner – I will work hard closely to constitution.”

Kulang was appointed by Lakes state Governor Chol Tong in August.

“With my appointment as commissioner, there must be rule of law to governance this county. Kulang reaffirmed that his will deal with cattle raiders positively base on law. The issue of cattle rustling is going to end through law – then thing will go to normal.”

Yirol West County authorities arrested a suspected gun dealer in March 2009 but the outcome of the case has not been made public.

    Yeah more welcoming to honerable commissioner Makur Kulang of Yirol west county and may your assuming office shall be in different spirit in united greater Yirol with peace and don’t come with so-called foot-step of those commissioners they gone , we’re need peace no more gunshot around the cattles raidle and take care of your people . Insecurity of cattle raids is going to discreasing our number of voting in referendum in forthcoming January 9,2011 election . I think we are watchdog of your leadership since we hearing that you be come as a Yirol west commissioner because your people are not understanding what is called justice of laws and 100% sure we people of greater Yirol we’re really backbone of SPLA/SPLM since we are in the bush , Let us bring peace in greater Yirol and leave all this problem between us .
