Sudan’s Unity State slaps ban on sale of treated mosquito nets

September 2nd, 2010 (BENTIU) – Local authorities in Unity State have enacted a law banning the sale of treated mosquito nets in all local markets, says the state’s health minister.

Mrs. Deborah Kur Manyal, local health minister in Unity State, told Sudan Tribune on Wednesday that humanitarian assistants had been prohibited from selling treated mosquito nets in the market.

She attributed the decision to the fact that mosquito nets are originally supplied on a free-of-charge basis by aid agencies to poor people across southern Sudan.

During a meeting of the state’s Councils of Ministers last week, Manyal said that the sale of mosquito nets was “a big crime committed by the traders who sell them to the public while they are free of charge with written note on their back stating that they are not for sale.”

The state’s Council of Ministers has passed a law stating that anyone caught selling treated mosquito nets to citizens shall face justice accordingly.

Ban on sale of mosquitoe nets in the market is a big crime commited by the so called Health minister this traders are doing very good work to save life of many people around southern Sudan only let him find out its source how it reach this traders because there are some relatives above in big positions within GOSS doing it and worst of it, can we we forget rampant sale of money in juba streets and some other state capitals? secondly if crituically followed those who sell this money are of one family and will find that it is only if not far from the truth one tribe doing the job and no body can even say a word. These money sellers have so far gone anotgher extra mile by cheating the public using wrong dollars and no Government say on it because that money belongs to individual ministers while greatest number of people continue suffering.Lastly we can only say lets stop money seeling first in all streets especially at the capital juba…..corruption will never end in Southern Sudan please wake up otherwise????
