Head of Sudan’s Kober prison fired over escape of USAID employee killers
September 2, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The Sudanese government has sacked the head of Sudan’s Kober prison for allegations of negligence which led to the escape of four men convicted and sentenced to death for killing a USAID employee and his driver two years ago in the Sudanese capital.
The pro-government Al-Rayaam newspaper said that the director of Kober prison General Muhammad Ibrahim and 11 other officers who were on duty that night were relieved from their duties.
The newspaper also quoted an informed source as saying that an inquiry panel which was formed to probe the escape found administrative flaws in the jail.
The source said that a police court sentenced General Muhammad Ibrahim with a suspended six months jail sentence and recommended that he be retired without benefits. However, the verdict has not yet been endorsed pending the expiration of the appeals window process.
The four men escaped last June through sewer which leads from the prison to a main street, according to Sudanese police. One of the men was reportedly re-arrested along with other men who facilitated the breakout.
This is the first time in the history of the Sudan that a prisoner succeeds in making his way out of Kober which is considered a maximum security prison where political figures are normally held when detained. Many observers in Sudan have questioned the official story on their escape with some going as far as accusing government involvement in the plot.
The U.S. called on Sudan to investigate how the inmates managed to make their way out of the prison.
John Granville and his Sudanese driver Abdel-Rahman Abbas Rahma were shot dead on 2008 New Years Eve by men believed to be belonging to an Islamic militant group Ansar al-Tawhid which claimed responsibility for the killing.
Granville was the first American to be killed in Sudan since 1973, when two diplomats were slain by Palestinian militants.

Hahahahaha, you really want us to believe that four sentenced inmates were able to escape from a maximum security prison like Kober??!, what a charade, those killers are thought as heroes by the regime himself, they were sentenced to death only to avoid international embarrassment, we all know that according to Shariah, no muslem would be sentenced to death over Non-Muslim killing, I firmly believe that their escape was arranged by the government itself to avoid their execution.

Who is the Khartoum’s Islamists Kidding? they have intentionally released the convicted criminals who implemented their scheme with direct orders from the Genocidaire Bashir against the innocent USAID employee and today they are making empty bravados that the fired those who let the killers. Iam sure those officers of Kober person the will be promoted to a higher ranks with transfer orders to enjoy luxurious life in other locations in Sudan or in the Sudan’s Islamic alleys Countries such as Iran or Syria
