The match took place in Al-Hilal stadium in Sudan’s twin capital city of Omdurman and saw an above average performance by the hosts which could have resulted in more goals.

The first goal came through Muddathir Al-Tayeb Careca, who plays for Al-Hilal, in the 9th minute.

Cheered on by a good crowd, Al-Tayeb would have scored again in the 22nd minute, when he got to the end of a cross inside the box but somehow he spurned his chance with the Congo net at his mercy

The second and final goal was scored via a penalty by Mohamed Tahir in the 90th minute.

Sudan is now leading group I by three points. On Sunday, Swaziland will welcome 2010 World Cup heroes Ghana in the other qualification match in this section.

The last time Sudan qualified to the African Cup of Nations was in 2008 which was the first time in three decades.
