Newly appointed Commissioner of Payinjiar County receives a rapturous welcome

September 7, 2010 (BENTIU) — The newly appointed Commissioner of Payinjiar County of Unity state has received a rapturous welcome by the County population following his first visit to the area since his appointment about three months ago.

Colonel Peter Gai Jaok arrived on Monday in the County from the state capital, Bentiu, amidst ululations and chanting of slogans by multitude of people who received him happily as their new Commissioner.

Jok since his appointment had been in the Unity state’s capital for the last three months due to lack of access road to his county until the state government this week requested for a helicopter to transport him to the area.

While other counties have access roads connecting to the state capital, Payinjiar County has been lagging behind in terms of roads, development and provision of telecommunication network as well as other basic services.

The County citizens, however, after receiving their new commissioner expressed optimism that things would change for the better.

Commissioner Jok called on Payinjiar youths to maintain stability by promoting a long lasting unity and peaceful co-existence among themselves so as to develop the county. He commended the support accorded to him by the citizens, which he said resulted to his appointment as their commissioner.

On the upcoming referendum for self-determination, Jok urged the citizens to choose wisely, saying the northern ruling National Congress Party (NCP) had already made the unity of Sudan unattractive for the last five years of interim period.
