Sudanese RCS, WFP distribute food stuff to 450,000 displaced persons in Darfur
KHARTOUM, May 8, 2004 (SUNA) — The Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) has distributed food stuff to more than 450,000 beneficiaries in Darfur states in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP), amounting to 5,000 tons of food materials.
This was announced to SUNA by Secretary General of SRCS Omer Osman, indicating distribution of the amount set for the month of May is underway.
He added that the society transported the displaced persons in Al-Fashir from Abu-Shok camp to Al-Mashtal area, who numbered some 30,000, providing lodging materials and food to them.
The society also dug two water wells in the camp.
Lodging materials were distributed to some 5,000 families at Zalengai area during the past two days.
Some 62 manual water pumps were rehabilitated during the month of April at Kolbus, Selaia, Makjar and Oum-Khair areas in Western Darfur.
He said the SRCS has offices in the three states of Darfur, that have been backed by workers experienced in emergency field.
