Egyptian police kills a Sudanese at Israel’s border

September 12, 2010 (CAIRO) – Egyptian police shot dead a Sudanese man at the border with Israel on Friday as he was trying to cross into the Jewish state, Reuters reported.

Suleiman Yahia Ishaq, 25, was killed after refusing orders to stop at the border with Israel in Sinai. He died from a shot to the head.

Most of the Sudanese slain by the Egyptian border police are from Darfur region where government’s campaign to quell a rebellion started in 2003 led to the death of over 300 thousand people, according to the UN estimations.

This year Egyptian security forces killed some 27 people who tried to slip into Israel. Also smugglers killed last month five people after trying to escape from them. The Bedouins who monopolize the cross-border traffic in Sinai detain the African migrants, mostly from Horn of Africa countries, asking them to pay more money.
