GOSS conducts training for livestock workers in Unity state

September 16, 2010 (BENTIU)- The Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries of the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) is conducting a workshop to train livestock workers.

Unity State has a high number of livestock raised largely in pastoral system, base on rural, subsistence oriented, extensive, diverse and multi-purpose.

Thousands of people in Southern Sudan lives in hunger and poverty, the challenge faced by the government of Southern Sudan is to develop partnership with international NGO’s specialist in order to eradicate the poverty life in the various ten states of Southern Sudan.

Unity State government is to assist farmers and livestock rising for food security and the ratification of the rapidly rising demand of expanding global population for meat and milk in order to meet millennium development goals in poverty reduction.

Samuel Lony Geng, state Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries told Sudan Tribune today they as the state authorities are to encourage people to work hard in order to build the national interest and the transformation of resources.

“The main objective of the workshop is to assure subsistence’s in higher priority of rendering the building capacity of farmers and the extension of officers in the state to deliver services effectively,” he said.

Geng, who has been formerly minister of Local government and law enforcement and services as the current minister of Animals Resources and Fisheries in Unity State, said that he will improve services to all citizens.

He added that the importance of this workshop is to build the capacity of their staffs in the state level and make strong link with lining Ministry of Animals Resources and Fisheries in the government of Southern Sudan.
