Minni Arcua Minnawi who heads a faction of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM) has been left out of the new government formed after of the elections despite holding the post of the senior Presidential assistant as stipulated by the Darfur Peace Agreement (DPA) signed in Abuja.

The former rebel has been reportedly been confined to his home after seeking to fly to Juba to meet other Darfuri rebel figures residing there.

However, he told the pro-government Al-Rayaam said that the reports are false and that he will fly to Darfur’s three states next week with the purpose of brokering some tribal reconciliation agreements particularly in Nyala.

The DPA signed between Khartoum and Minnawi has done little to improve the security situation in Sudan’s western region primarily due to other major rebel groups rejecting it along with IDP’s and refugees.

Minnawi has been largely marginalized by the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) party prompting him at one time to unofficially abandon his post and stay in Darfur for several months. Security arrangements talks between the two sides has been stalled recently causing Minnawi’s faction to remain out of the government.

The regime policy toward Minnawi is a palpable evidence of NCP unwillingness to address Darfur issue. Consequently, any future peace accord will be highly suspicious due to the arrogant behavior of NCP which start to lose control over the country and put its integrity into peril, the premature new strategy for Darfur is blatant response for regime failure to give concession and find ever lasting peace for the traumatized region. Vice president Silva kiir genuinely declared yesterday in United States that “NCP strategy will not solve the problem of Darfur, it doesn’t address the root causes of the conflict “adding “this strategy is not new it’s an old”. In south as well as in Darfur and the peripheries of Sudan should understand that NIF/NCP will never honor its commitments unless untie our ranks and rise vigorously to force it to implement it engagements

Every rumor has a grain of truth in it. Khartoum gossip had it that Minni Minnawi was under undeclared house arrest. But; the central question is why Minni who betrayed the cause of people of Darfur seeking short-term gains and further fought the regime’s battles against his own people; under house arrest now?.I believe that; the regime is resolute to take the Country back to square one than to allow the South secede, and knows full well that Minni according to his recent moves will join the other camp.
