Abyei deputy chief rejects threats to quit the area

September 25, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – The Deputy Chief of Abyei Administration rejected a three-day ultimatum to leave the oil rich area launched by some civil society groups from Abyei this week.

Rahmah Abd-al-Rahman Al-Nur, disclosed yesterday he had received the threat in a letter delivered by a group of youth in Khartoum to his secretariat during his presence in the capital, Khartoum.

The letter indicated the need to end the representation of Messeriya tribe in all the executive and legislative organs in the area of Abyei.

“Such threats do not scare us, and we do not pay any attention to it,” Rahamah said in statements to the government sponsored SMC. He further accused the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) of instigating the move.

“There are no so-called civil society organizations in the area, but these entities are affiliated to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement,” he said.

The Dinka Ngok and Messeriya trade accusations of encouraging the settlement of people from outside the oil rich area to impact the result of the referendum.

The two peace partners also disagree on who has the right to vote in this referendum. The National Congress Party (NCP) says the Messeriya can participate in the referendum but the SPLM says only individuals who are residing there since longtime can take part.

Abyei civil society organization organized a demonstration outside the United Nations Mission in Sudan headquarters in Khartoum on September 23, calling for the formation of the Abyei referendum commission and protested against the settlement of the Massireya tribe in the area.

Abyei population have to decide on whether the central oil-producing region of Abyei should remain in north Sudan or join the south, a vote due to take place on January 9, 2011.

Recently the NCP proposed sharing Abyei’s administration between Dinka Ngok and Messirya communities and splitting its oil revenue thus: 40% for southern Sudan and 40% for northern Sudan, as the remaining 20% goes to Abyei administration.

However Southern Sudan government vice president rejected the proposal saying “Abyei belongs to Dinka Ngok, and not a shared area”.

I think the gate is already been closed for Arabs people in Abyei area. Arabs are all confused and they don’t even know what to do. The word “ABYEI” itself describe that Arabs have no right to exercise any political motive in Abyei. Abyei; in Dinka language mean tree in English. What does it mean in Arabic language if the Arabs people claim Abyei as their territory? Arabs are fool in mind.

Abyei is already belong to Dinka Jok of Ngok-Abyei. It doesn’t matter how many Arabs are in Abyei area.

I do supported what is done by the Civil Society Groups from Abyei. Arabs have no right completly to share any portion of land in Abyei. Abyei is a land of Dinka Jok. No doubt in that. But, however, I do blame DENG KUOL AROP BIONG, the Late Paramount Chief of Abyei who gave chance to the people of Arabs just because of Salt and passed away without making correction. At the same time, his ancesters of Deng Kuol Arop Biong are they people who still governing Abyei instead of giving that leadership to someone else who is not belong to Deng Kuol Arop family.

By the way, is it only the family of Deng Kuol Arop Biong who have a good education in Abyei only? First of all, Abyei is not for Deng Kuol Arop Biong, but it is belong to all Dinka Jok of Abyei. So, if this problem is not taken properly by the Citizens of Dinka Jok of Abyei, then those of Deng Kuol Arop Biong will lead Abyei to a way that will deteriorate it. Now, we have exprienced that if one of Deng Kuol Arop Biong family don’t have job in the Southern Sudan, then one tried to go to Khartoum and confronted Omar Bashir for a job and Bashir give him a job. This is a useless game. The people of Deng Kuol Arop Biong are the people who are now killing the Southern Sudanese Civilians who are now residing in Abyei.

Abyei have only nine Section namely: Abior, Anyel, Achak, Alei, Achueng, Man~nyuar, Dil, Bongo and Mareng. If Abior which is the clan of Deng Kuol Arop Biong wanted to join the Government of Khartoum, then they have to go and leave Abyei alone to the eight(8) clans who don’t have any association with the Government of Khartoum. The people of Deng Kuol Arop family have to be blame of this mess in Abyei land.

This is what happened last time when Deng Alor Kuol tried to annexed Heglig(Toor Aliiny) of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom County in Unity State to Abyei map and after all when he fail to do it so, then he confessed and said that Heglig(Toor Aliiny) doesn’t belong to Abyei, but it is belong to Unity State. This is an absurdity of such characters of the family of Deng Majok. Shame on Deng Alor Kuol himself. If I get Degn Alor and Omar Bashir, then I can kill Deng Alor first and leave Omar Bashir at last. A lot of people died in Abyei including Bhar-el-ghazel, Nuer, Equatorian, Ruweng, Paweny, Bor, Lual Yak, Panaruu and so many others. So, in this point, why the people of Deng Kuol Arop don’t appreciate the life of the matrys who sacrifice their life in the problem of Abyei?
