ANC leader seeks apology from Lakes state county commissioner over remarks

By Manyang Mayom

September 27, 2010 (KAMPALA) — The Leader of Sudan African National Congress Party (ANC), has been at loggerheads with south Sudan’s ruling party – Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) – in Lakes state over a statement released by the County Commissioner of Wulu, Gideon Shilur Mbele, accusing other parties of allegedly supplying arms to civilians in some payams (localities) within Wulu county.

The accusations were made against Sudan’s-ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Sudan African National Congress party (ANC), and a splinter party from the SPLM – Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Democratic Change (SPLM-DC).

Wulu Commissioner Shilur has now apologized to the leader of Sudan African National Congress party (ANC) over the statement.

The ANC leader, Gabriel Kuc Abyei, who was angered by the accusation threatened to open a court case against the Commissioner.

“This is going to be the end of SPLM liars against other political parties in the South. I am going to open a court case against Wulu County commissioner. Only three days deadline remain for SPLM party to decide which solution they could provide to sustain good image of my party and its supporters. The ANC name is being spoiled badly through this false allegations.”

Commissioner Shilur told Sudan Tribune that, “I am badly hit by attitudes of my community who actually disallow me in all point to strengthen relation – there were more arms in the areas but I just suspect few political parties who were serious facing SPLM candidates during our April Elections. I thought they were behind [the] deal of arming populations. I thought ANC, SPLM-DC and NCP were political parties arming civilians in my areas but unfortunately it is now clear that SPLM-DC is only party behind arming my civilians.”

Lakes state Governor Chol Tong Mayay, said that Shilur must give the ANC leader an apology because he accused ANC without evidence.

“The SPLM and ANC are doing national duty of South Sudan and there is no need to discourage each other without proper evidence. Southern Sudan problem is for all of us both South Sudan political parties and SPLM party.”

“I am sorry for statement which had rushed to media by mistake which actually hit my brotherly party ANC. I am really sorry and I hope such an incident would not happen anymore in my term. We are brothers and southerners who will shoulder one common problem of Khartoum like this forthcoming referendum in January 2011,” said commissioner Shilur.

Party doesn’t lie, individuals do! Commisioner’s actions are irrelavent to SPLM as a Party!

It is good that the governor also apologized for the statement released by Wulu commisioner. However, it is absolutely coreect that problems in South Sudan should not be sloved by the SPLM as the ruling party only but by all Southern political parties minus SPLM-DC.

But one thing to be understood here, when an individual released such a statement, it should not be taken as a policy and atitudes of that party the man belong but be taken as an individual political abused.

The above statement speaks volumes. I am quite sure the Commissioner blamed other parties for his failure to exert his influence on the Community. I wish he had blamed his own unpopularity because of his past bad deeds.
