Britain pledges more humanitarian aid to Sudan’s Darfur region
KHARTOUM, May 10, 2004 (SUNA) — Britain has announced allocation of an additional 10 million sterling pounds for emergency humanitarian needs in Darfur.
A press release by the British Embassy in Khartoum said Secretary of State for International Development Mr. Hilary Benn pointed out that this would bring total UK commitments for Darfur to 19.5 million sterling pounds.
The UK minister welcomed the humanitarian cease-fire agreement signed on April 8 as a step forward in resolving the crisis in Darfur, calling on the parties to live up to their commitments.
