Sudanese Red Crescent reunites 200 children with families

KHARTOUM, Sudan, May 9, 2004 (PANA) — At a function Saturday marking the World Day of the International Movement of the Red Cross and Red Crescent, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society (SRCS) affirmed it had so far reunited some 200 war-displaced children in the country with their families.

In a statement, SRCS secretary general Omer Osman said there were more than 2,000 SRCS volunteers currently serving at health, emergency and social centres in the war-torn western region of Darfur.

He said the SRCS re-united many children with their families at Raja, Aweil and Wau area in last February, adding that around 200 were currently being re-united with their families in Malakal area, in collaboration with local authorities.

The function marking World Day of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement was held at the Al-Salaam (peace) camp for internally displaced people (IDPs) in Omdurman under auspices of the minister of Cultural and Social Affairs.
