Sudan’s Kiir to hold rare meeting with Lam Akol: report

October 8, 2010 (JUBA) – The chairman of Sudan People Liberation Movement (SPLM) Salva Kiir is supposed to have held a meeting with his main rival Lam Akol who has defected in 2009 to form the SPLM for Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) heightening long-standing tensions between him and the Southern ex-rebel group.

Kiir9a-354cd.jpgThe London based Al-Sharq Al-Awsat quoting unnamed sources said that the meeting was to take place on Friday in Juba and will discuss general reconciliation between Southern factions. No other details were provided.

The SPLM has long accused Akol of being an agent of the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) in the south and accused him also of commanding an armed militia receiving supplies from the North.

He has been a staunch supporter of NCP leader Omer Hassan Al-Bashir who is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) for war crimes in Darfur.

The SPLM-DC leader challenged Kiir in April elections for South Sudan presidency but managed to gain only 7% of the votes. However he later alleged that the SPLM/A rigged the vote and intimidated his supporters operating in the South.

The party however has been weakened in recent month following mass defection by its key members and their return back to the SPLM.

Kiir appears to be striking a conciliatory tone with all his rivals ahead of the 2011 self-determination referendum scheduled for January 2011. This week he pardoned several SPLA high ranking officers who have defected and clashed with the Southern army.

The SPLM accused the NCP of fuelling the defections for the purpose of undermining the referendum and making the South appear unstable and unfit to rule itself.

It would be wonderful if Kiir and Akol can come to gather.
the fresh idea made by kiir about the deffected hight Ranking officers is very intellegent because if we come to gather as southerness there will be no rooms for Arab to undermined the Refferendom.
And again am urging the southerness to make reconciliation before Refferendom or as a Families, one body with one objective, one nation.
All of us we need to get our new born country like others people. As we all knows Arab is rich because of south sudan.
our new country is full of natural resouces. South sudan is not like North sudan.

That’s the meaning of statesmanship. The president is doing an excellent job. Dr. Lam has something to contribute that Southerners would be proud of and the president knows that.

Besides; our house should be in order before the referendum and Southerners should rally behind the preisdent in executing this.Hope Dr. Lam will speak his mind and join ranks with other Southerners in match to freedom. We need everyone on board.

Every human has weakness; politician or not. Southerners should change their perception about him and have him back, not neccessarily to SPLM but with his party, ready to serve the South.

for the few coming weeks As we approach the high point of the Struggle to see our selves in new nation, require Southerners to reach out to brothers and seek both forgiveness and reconciliation with both God and man.exercise real love for one other.restored trust and honest communication. Where possible, we have avoided airing the “dirty laundry” involved with certain individuals. We want nothing more than true unity and reconciliationmat this crucial time

God knows our weaknesses and our frail frame. He knows that we are tempted, that we can fail and that we will fall short. That’s why He sent His Son to stand in the breach and reconcile us with Him. To seek this divine and powerful healing, in our individual roles we are joining hand together for one common we all know…

I congratulate our government for these serious actions they are taking lately. These show maturity on part of our politicians and let’s work very hard to kill tribalism once for all. If we united all our forces, NCP won’t have any window to penetrate into our welfare.
Let the spirit of unity continue to rise in South and our independent is eminent.

President Kiir don’t look back any more!

Bravo to HE Kiir that is briliant approach showing our foe who are the source of our disintegration that we are who we are. For this historical match toward the separation of Southern Sudan, we do not want to leave single South Sudanese behind but to sing our South Sudan National Anthem together and forever.
Is a time to forget about our internal conflict and now face our common enemy.

    God Bless Southern Sudan
