Message from Al-Bashir to Chadian President

KHARTOUM, May 10, 2004 (SUNA) — The Minister of Investment, Al-Sharif Ahmed Omer Badr, is due to leave Tuesday for Ndjamena, Chad, to convey a written message from the President of the Republic, Gen. Omer Al-Bashir, to the Chadian President, Idris Deby, dealing with the issue of Darfur and the latest developments in this regard.

The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nagib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, said in a press statement Monday that the President’s message affirms the government commitment to work to ensure that the incidents in Darfur would not affect the security and stability of Chad.

He said that a mission from the African Union arrived Sunday in Al-FashIr, the capital of North Darfur State, to meet with the concerned parties toward guaranteeing the continuity of the cease-fire and to put forward proposals for the government and the armed groups in Darfur.

In this connection, the minister explained that the African Union mission would present a report to the headquarters of the African Union regarding the situation in Darfur.
