South Sudan state prepared to establish relations with Israel: official

October 11, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – A new state in South Sudan would establish relations with Israel should the Jewish state recognize its independence, a senior official in the semi-autonomous region said.

In three months’ time, the people of South will decide on whether they wish declare independence from the North or stay part of united Sudan. Most observers expect an overwhelming vote in favor of secession.

Southern Sudan Information Minister Barnaba Marial Benjamin told the Dubai based Al-Khaleej newspaper that the new state “is capable of establishing with all world countries” in response to question about future links with Israel.

“The independent South will establish relations with all world countries and will not antagonize anyone…..Any state that recognize us we will have relations with. Just like there are diplomatic relations to some Arab states with Israel then why not us?” Benjamin added.

Sudan has no diplomatic relations with Israel and remains hostile to the Jewish state on the grounds that it is occupying Arab lands.

Israel is the house for several hundreds Sudanese refugees who fled through the Egyptian borders.

South Sudan diplomatic and military relation with Jewish State of Israel is an absolute possibility after secession; there is no question about it.
Whoever hates it will and must have to deal with it.

I genuinely credit GOSS for demonstrating to the NCP and the entire world that the South is ready to govern itself. We desparetely need to establish good relations regionally and tarnsnationally. And Israel is one of those nations from the Middle East we need on our side. I hope they are prepared to acknowledge the outcome of the referenda.

John Garang was a good friend of Yasser Arafat and understood that Palestinians and Southerners were essentially fighting for the same principles. South should therefore understand and sympathize with Palestinian people and not take positions that are overtly pro-Israel. There is no problem establishing relations with Israel as long as they are based on mutual respect. South has equal right to enjoy relations with future Palestinian state.

Yes, thank you very your Excellency Minister Dr.Barnabas for your comment on the future relationship with the State of Israel / Jewish. We don`t have and will not predict to have a problem with anyone Internationally.

Arab dislike jewish because of their ancient history and their blessing from Amighty God, not what Israel did to them, and also an increase of scientists and an intellectual number of jewish people all over the world .

Israel is a Democratic country and had nothing wrong between them and the sudanese ,except being Arab and demonstrating an Arab blind Ideaology.

    We don`t want that politics!!!

This goes to show how shallow these people are. South Sudanese never have any problem with state of Israel and I do not understand why they (Northern Sudanese) keep asking this question? After all Israel has diplomatic relationship with Morocco, Egypt, Jordan…just name few.

    What crazy people??!!

So what if the “potential Fail state” south establishes relation with Israel??!! would that add any values to Israel or Arabs? would that resolve the middle east problem? What benefit will Israel get??

Many arabs countries and all African countries souround Sudan have relation with Israel so did that make any difference??!!

Israel gets its oil and water from Arab countries and will need nothing from the new fail state.

    It’s just bull-shit.

South has right to establish diplomatic relations with any country that will recognize her during the result of referendum and Israel inclusive. No country is an island. If there are people who speculate are not lying about the potential diplomatic relations between South and Jewish nation.
