North and South Sudan armies to probe alleged troop buildup on border
October 28, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan northern and southern armies will probe claims of troop buildup along the joint border between the two parts of the country.
The Joint Defense Board agreed in a meeting held Thursday to form a six-member team to investigate accusations traded by the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) about troop mobilization ahead of the referendum on South Sudan independence.
“The meeting decided to send a committee to assess the situation on the ground and review the status of forces of the parties and the extent of their commitment to the peace agreement,” said Ayuen Alier, a spokesperson for the Joint Defence Board.
En accordance to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) which ended two decades of war, the two armies have to withdraw their troops to 1956 north south border. However SAF is accused of redeploying troops in Abyei and the SPLA is allegedly maintaining troops in Nuba Mountains, south Kordofan.
The joint military body in Thursday’s meeting adopted a document to restructure the national army after the referendum if the southerners vote in favor of Sudan’s unity. The deal is seen as posing good basis for the formation of the Sudanese army on new principles.

A journey of a thousands miles begin with single step, accusing each other doesn’t make any one to vomit, it is clear and clear that if the Southern Sudan become independence state then Northerners will declare the war against the Southerners and if the Northerners succeed the unity as they wish then Southerners will declare the war against the Northerners.
Bashir with his fellow mates must know that today Southerners are not like those of 1950s.
