Sudan urges oil firms to redouble efforts to increase production

November 2, 2010 (KHARTOUM) — Minister of State for Petroleum has urged oil companies to step up efforts to increase Sudan’s production particularly in the fields that did not yet begin its activities.

Ali Ahmed Osman made his remarks during a meeting with a delegation of Petrodar Operating Company which works in Blocks 3 and 7 situated in the Melut Basin in Southern Sudan.

Petrodar is also conducting exploration activities in White Nile state.

The state minister recommended Petrodar officials to do everything in their power to increase the drilling operations in its concessions. He also indicated the importance of Alrawat oil field located in White Nile State, where promising quantities of oil have been indentified there.

Petrodar is a consortium of Chinese, Malaysian, Emirati oil exploration and production companies operating in Sudan with the state owned Sudapet. It is incorporated in the Virgin Islands on 31 October 2001.

With the perspective of southern Sudan independence next year, the Sudanese authorities intensify exploration operation in the country to secure more resources for the central government in Khartoum.

Last week, the governor of South Darfur announced the start of exploration activities in his state. The exploration activities are conducted by the Chinese Petro Energy.
