Sudan’s spy chief demands Juba arrests Darfur rebels in Southern Sudan

November 8, 2010 (KHARTOUM) – Sudan’s National Intelligence and Security Services (NISS) director today asked the southern Sudan government to arrest Darfur rebel figures who are allegedly working from the semi-autonomous region against Khartoum.

Mohamed Atta Al-Moula, NISS director
Mohamed Atta Al-Moula, NISS director
The Sudanese spy chief Mohamed Atta Al-Moula made his demand public at the graduation ceremony NISS officers outside the capital Khartoum.

Atta asked the Juba government to immediately arrest Darfur rebels who are present in Southern Sudan saying it should be done in the interest of sustainable peace between the north and the south. He indicated that some of the rebel leaders are in Juba and Yei in Central Equatoria and in Northern Bahr el-Ghazal states.

Since last summer Juba authorities have accused Khartoum of supporting General George Athor who mutinied in Jonglei sate after April’s elections.

Southern Sudan’s government on August 8 seized a helicopter at Fulug county airport in Upper Nile State and accused the Sudanese army of shipping weapons and ammunition to the rebel general to derail the referendum process.

The Sudanese president Omer Al-Bashir has been hostile to any role in the resolution of Darfur conflict for Salva Kiir, his first deputy in the Presidency, who also heads the southern government. The south – a semi-autonomous region – has attempted to reunite the fractured Darfuri rebels but the central government suspected that Southern officials were simply seeking to manipulate them for political gains.

In his speech Monday the head of the Sudanese intelligence asked: “What does the rebel Ahmed Bakhit doing in Yei? And what does a mobile unit of [the rebel] Justice and Equality [Movement] moving to Northern Bahr el Ghazal want? What do they want to hand over there and receive from there?”

Sudan has recently accused Uganda of supporting JEM rebels who clashed last week with the Sudanese army in different parts of Darfur and Kordofan.

Some members of the UN Security Council delegations said in private they were impressed by the important presence of supporters of Darfur rebel groups in Juba who demonstrated during their visit to southern Sudan last October.

Western experts say tensions between the two partners of 2005 north-south peace agreement over border demarcation and Abyei region might cause a new regional conflict that would destabilize the whole region.

Unconfirmed reports recently spoke of contacts between the Chadian rebels – who refuse to rally behind the government of President Idriss Deby – and Southern Sudan’s ruling party (SPLM) as Sudanese and Chadian authorities started a large scale operation to send them back to Ndjamena.

Atta said today that some 4,000 Chadian rebels have been transported to their country as part of security arrangements signed between the two neighboring countries in January.

The Sudanese official also stressed that the NISS is ready to be a key actor in securing the upcoming referendum on self determination in southern Sudan.

    Mohamed Atta,

You are overstepping your boundaries. You are acting against the rules/laws. It is not appropriate for you to dictate to us who should be the guest in our house. You have no power to choose our friends either. Darfur rebels are Sudanese and they have right to stay in Sudan(Juba). We don’t view them as criminals since they have not committed genocide, rape or mass murder. Your government did all those things and you and your boss deserve to be behind bars(in jail) and then face the book.

They say, what goes around comes around or what goes up must come down. The GOSS officials asked NCP officials several times to avoid supporting and aiding the scores of militias operating against Juba but deaf hears were and are still being turned against such call. Fortunately, some of these militias came back to Juba and seek for forgivness with others rethinking their unholy allance with Khartoum.

My advice to GOSS members is that Khartoum must first hand over all enemies of Juba to Juba before Khartoum’s demands are made. Individuals like Riek Gai, Gordon Kong, George Athor and other militia leaders with their fellowers must be surrendered to Juba.

Good one Hammed Chol. I like your comment bro. Your words are the exact words to tell this scavenger who want to behave as if he is our King.

When Gen. Tanginya hit us and ran to them they didn’t arrest him, when Athor screwed it up all and ran to them they didn’t even say a word either. Why do they cry loud this time?

To Darfur figures who are on the run and alleged to have hideout in the South Sudan, is it not good now that you find a shelter to hide and plan your ways? Southerners are best people ever; you have given us hard time to tackle this Jallaba we would have over ran it long ago if you listen on time, it is now a thorn in the flesh and you got to bear with it.

No single Darfur rebel should be handed to Khartoum. Tanginya wreak havoc in Malakal twice and ran to Khartoum and he was never handed to the South. Now, the chicken have come home to roost for Khartoum. They are being beaten at their own game.

To me, a rebel is the subject who refusing to comply to his master’s demand….that’s not the case with Darfur freedom fighters…. They are preserving dignity of their people and that’s is worthy to bleed for, that’s what those brave men are doing, no single Darfurian FREEDOM FIGHTER should be handed over to oppressors…..innocent people are being slaughter in Darfur ….simply because they are honest to the likeness God created them in… a pen will never be a knife, even if you succeed forcing people to call it a knife…Africans will never be Arabs ….Long life Darfurian freedom fighters!

    HAHAHAHAHAHA

I think this is a perfect reason and excuse to invade them and return the south to main land of Sudan and shatter all the dreams and hopes of those separatists of having their own independent state that democratic, fair, free of corruption, and more over free of Arab/Jalaba …(what a dream!!)

We have many sleep cells and rebels in the south that we can easily use them aginst SPLM, we have George Athor Deng, Mr. Matip, Lam Akol, etc, more importantly we control the oil and its money if we close that pipeline the south will simply die of starvation, you are completely under our mercy, our hands are surrounding your neck and if we press them hard you will give up the soul!

You better learn the lesson from Chad, see how Chad now is acting on our favor after they tried every thing they could supported by France to annoy our country but it turned out on them at the end of the game and wisely returned to their minds!

You guys don’t play with the fire, don’t rely too much on the west and learn the lesson from Chad, keep in mind that the keys that we can use against you are much bigger and very powerful than the keys that we used against Chad and we don’t need to wait for long to get the result, if we just stop giving you the billions oil money the south will run under chaos and becomes part of the great African jungle!

Mohamed Atta Al-Moula should need first to understand Government of Southern Sudan whether it is the government of terrorist like NCP government which is full with al-qaedas leaders. Southern Sudan government must not attempt to arrest any leader from Darfur.

Their responsibility is to bring peace in Darfur rather than to fuel the engine.

Even Returnees here in Khartoum refused to voluntarily going back knowing that nothing going to happen as Separation. The daughter of Late Vice President Zubir Mohamed Salih is given to Mr. Kirr as part of the Deal.
So to conclude guys, let’s forget Separation, let’s see means to make UNITY useful for us and the coming Generation.

    Mohamed Atta;

The clock your doomed end in Sudan is ticking out and very very fast; and that is why all of you (the genocidaires of Khartoum) in a dire need of psychiatric attention these days including your god father Ali Osman Taha. Tigani Al-Mahi lunatic asylum is too small to accommodate all of you guys, there for advise you to ask Ahmedinejad to open a counseling centre for you in Tehran. What is wrong with Darfurian being in South Sudan; Juba or anywhere? It’s none of your fucking business. You hired Arab mercenaries to fight wars of survival for you but now the game is over; there is no way you can draw a wedge between Southerners and the people of Darfur, and be reminded that, they are joining their hands and efforts to kick your ass out of Sudan, if you thought to take the Country back to war. As established fact, today Juba is full of Mohammed Atta’s next of kin Sudanese semi -Arabs who fled to the South after you imposed compulsory military service on them to fight for you, but not people of Darfur as you claim.

    Mr. Jalabi,

South Sudan had survaved and thrieved from 1983 until 2005 without oil money. The question is; what really makes you think that South Sudan won’t make it without oil money should North/SOuth resumes again? Think profoundly about this simple question.

In light of your poor assumption, I want to logically dispute that, you are deadly wrong to assume that Northern Sudan is in control of Southern Sudan economically. Do you think Northern Sudan would enjoy our oil money if the war restart again consider how mordernized SPLA forces are at the moment? Absolutely NO.
