Swiss envoy proposes to coordinate humanitarian action in W. Sudan between GoS and donors
KHARTOUM, May 12, 2004 (SUNA) — The Chargé d’Affaires of the Swiss Embassy in Khartoum, who is representative of the donor states in Sudan, has praised the President of the Republic’s decision on formation of a fact-finding committee on human rights situations in Darfur.
This came when the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Nagib Al-Khair Abdul-Wahab, received the Swiss Charge d’Affaires Tuesday.
She described the decision as wise and directly tackles an issue receiving the concern of the UN and the donors. She expressed readiness of the donors group in Sudan to provide all possible support to the committee.
She, further, praised the efforts being made by the Sudanese Commission for the International Humanitarian Law, describing the support provided to the commission by the government as positive and reflects the government’s conviction with the importance of the international humanitarian law and the necessity to include it in the Sudanese laws and legislations.
The Swiss Charge d’Affaires, who represents the donor states in Sudan, proposed formation of a regular forum to bring together the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the donors to coordinate the stances towards the humanitarian situations in Darfur, securing solutions for them and attract the donors contribution to resolve Darfur problem.
The State Minister for Foreign Affairs, on his part, welcomed the proposal, affirming that the ministry will work for holding such a regular meeting with the donors to evaluate the situations and coordinate the stances towards Darfur.
