The centers, to be stationed in all the 10 states of Southern Sudan, will serve as avenues for coordinating the referendum registration exercise and subsequent phases of the entire process. It was established by the SPLM’s general secretariat in its southern sector.

Henry Wani Rondyang, the officer in-charge of information and public relations said the newly established registrations rooms, which will compose of teams in the 10 states, including Abyei, Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan areas.

The team will liaise with relevant local public institutions, such as Southern Sudan Referendum Bureau (SSRB), the various referendum taskforces, media outlets, civil society organizations and all stakeholders involved in the referendum process, Rondyang said.

“The ROR [Referendum Operation Room] will also coordinate and share information with international bodies such as UNMIS [United Nations Mission in Sudan], which has a role in the referendum process, international observers, etc,” he further stressed.
Acuil Banggol, an official from the SPLM southern sector urged all eligible voters to ensure that they are registered at the various registration centers, saying the referendum offers a vital opportunity for southerners to determine their destiny.

Meanwhile, with assistance from the US government funded International Republican Institute (IRI), the SPLM southern sector has already trained trainers and supervisors to aid the referendum preparation process in the state. Others will reportedly be sent to Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan to prepare people for popular consultations.

This exercise should not be a show of deceit. It is a shock that registration of voters is going to take place in regions where no sizable number of southerners exist. Reading an article dated 11/11/2010 at http://www.reliefweb.int shocks me to find that the people of Darfur are going to vote for the fate of South Sudanese by allowing them to take part in this game. South Sudan Referendum commission has already conducted workshops on this exercise in Darfur and more others are in the pipeline; a thing that is incomprensible. SSRC has also chosen sixteen centres where polling stations are going to be located with three in North Darfur namely in El Fasher, Kutum and El Lait, in South Darfur Nyala and more ten others, two centres in West Darfur too. One wonders which tribes from South Sudan live in those areas for this exercise. Please GoSS do not be part of the cheating scheme of Jallaba on our God given right on this. We have lost many souls for this exercise to come into effect. Please, Please do not allow this. We want facts on the ground. Do not let Jallaba deceive us once again.

With just a day to the start of the registration, I am not yet sure of my registration centre because nothing about Centres has been announced on the local radios that opperate here in my state. I am only learning here on ST about Referendum registration rooms and I have no idea of how they look like either.
Anyway, I am ready to get registered anywhere and vote anywhere, provided that registration takes place on time.
