By Bonifacio Taban Kuich
November 17, 2010 (BENTIU) – Six accountants from the State Ministry of Education Science and Technology were killed attacked by a group of bandits in on their way back to Unity state’s capital Bentui from a trip to from Koch county on Tuesday. Five others were injured.
One of those injured, Lumba Mut Guong, told Sudan Tribune at Bentiu Hospital on Tuesday night that the bandits fired bullets indiscriminately.
Lumba said that before they took off from the Koch county headquarter on Tuesday about one kilometer from the town, the group attacked them and killed six and seriously wounded five including him shot on his hand, he said.
On Wednesday the state authorities organized commemorative prayer service to bury the six accountants in Bentiu town.
It is feared that the violence will hinder voter registration in Koch county for the south’s referendum on independence.
Unity state’s government expressed its deep condolences to the families and friends of the officials and called for calm.
Banditry is common in Unity state. In August two people were killed and five seriously wounded when travelling at night from Koch county to Dadok payam (ward).
State Minister of Information and Communication Gideon Gatpan told Sudan Tribune that the accountants had travelled to Koch county to deliver teachers’ salaries. They were one kilometer from Koch town centre, when they were attacked.
The bandits stole money, which the administrations were due to deliver to Mayiendit, Leer and Payinjiar counties.
The amount stolen is not yet known and investigations are under way, according to the state Minister of Information and Communication in Unity State.
The state authorities are calling for immediate increased security in the area following the assassinations of it staff in the area and have called upon citizens to continue with the voter registration process which runs from November 15 to December 1.
South Sudan is widely expected to vote to separate from the north in January. There are fears that insecurity could put the referendum in jeopardy.

Six government accountants killed and five injured by bandits in Sudan’s Unity state
Dear all veiweres and readers,
The use of word ” bandits” is not that best to put on this incident which happened on wednesday 16/11/2010.
I can surely suggest to use this word as a Very WELL ORGANIZED MONEY ROBERY by elements in the State Ministry of Education Science and Technology .
Why i say so?. here are few question to be annswered by any inteligent person:
1. Why such huge amount of money was moved to and fro among four counties without any heavily armed security personels scouting them?.
2.How many soldiers were scouting them and how many killed.
3. How many PKs and others heavy machine guns were requested from state secutity depertment to accompany this thousand of thousands of money safely and untill they are recieved by thier owners?.
4. How will they know that the guys you term as “bandits” if no body phoned and informed them that there is money being randomly moved to and from within four counties?.
5.Why it took so long for the state goverment to quickly send rescue team by using cars why not using helicopter from oil companies to go?.
6. How did the news reached the state capital Bentiu?.
7. who informed them those guys in bentiu?.
Last not the least , I send my condolecent to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased souls.
May Almighty God raised theirs souls in peace.
thanks

first and foremost condolences!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! to the families, relatives, friends and the likes to the bereaves.
2nd may their soul rest in eternal peace and on the right hand of almighty God!! Amen
3rd, allow me to agreed with whoever say the gang are not bandit, how do you expect bandit to know that the officials are accountants and carry with them money for the staffs? the real problem to best of my knowledge is that, there is no proper security being lay down by state government at this critical time of referendum, dear readers conquer with me that Arabs can defeat us with those six votes we lose just on single day.
my last message or advise to you my fellow unity state citizens is that, use your commonsense this time around otherwise “accept the Japanese proverb that not all married women are wives” not all southern Sudanese leaders are for separation so don’t assume that the government will provide 100% security because we say if you make a mistake is not but repeating it make a mistake, this is 2nd time that such act happen yet not action taken against culprits
thanks
