November 21, 2010 (BENTIU) – A group of returnees from Mayom County and Abiehnom, who have been staying at Machakos Primary School in Bentiu town, told Sudan Tribune on Sunday that they appreciate the role plays by the Unity state government to return them from the north but want to be able to resettle.

Nyamadni Gai who had lived in north Sudan for twenty-four years has been staying at Machakos Primary School for the last two weeks said she is tired of staying at the school and wanted to be moved back to Mayom county.

Most of the returnees in Unity state complain that lack of a transport within the state has prevented the completed the final leg of their journey so that they can register in their home county for the referendum on southern in independence in January.

Registration for the vote is running from November 15 to December 1.

Unity State authorities say that 17,093 returnees from the north have returned to the south and are staying with relatives and have not received any assistant from NGO’s.

Unity states deputy governor William Dawuot Riak said Sunday that they have received a total of 27,000 – 3,727 households – organized returnees from the north. He said that the state had managed to repatriate many to the counties they originally moved from.

Around 4 million people were displaced in the north-south civil war, which ended in 2005 with the peace agreement that gave the south the right to secede in the upcoming referendum.

Thousands of southerners are returning to the south ahead of the vote, which most obervers and diplomats believe will see the south secede.

Deputy Governor Riak said as well as freedom of movement the challenges faced by the local government in returning the thousands of displaced is the poor road network in the state especially the between Mayom and Abiehnom counties. He said the state is attempting to renovate the road.

Unity state struggle to return new arrivals to home counties
Thanks Lord Jesus Christ for bringing the people of Ruweng Community of Biemnom(Abiemnom) County back to their native place. It was been a long time enough since Arabs ruined Ruweng in 1983. That event have lost the life of many people in Ruweng including the Paramount Chief of RUWENG, Mr. Camilo Kuot Kur Kuot and his son Kur Kuot Kur.

On April, 1983, Kur Kuot Kur, the son of the Late, Kuot Kur Kuot, was killed in Biemnom(Abiemnom) by the Arabs. So, when the death of Ruweng Chief occured, all Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom deserted to so many places in which some of them runned to Twic of Bhar-el-ghazel, Panaruu, Nuer, while some went to Khartoum. It is true that Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom was been silent for so many times and some commuities especially the Dinka Panaruu Community of Panrieng County and Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei tried it very hard in order to make Ruweng useless. This allegation or collaboration between Dinka Panaruu and Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei in which Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei tried to change Dinka Panaruu to be Ruweng will never happen. Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom never compose of Panaruu. So, even if the Dinka Panaruu wanted to be called Ruweng, it is up to them, but we know that we the people of Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom we don’t have Dinka Panaruu in Ruweng. Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom Composes of SIX sub-sections namely: MIJUAN, AMAAL, MANTEENG, NGONGcHILL, ABAANG and THIYEER. Those are the six clans that make up Ruweng Community of Biemnom nowadays.

I know Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei people especially Deng Alor, Luka Biong, Edward Lino and Benjamin Mijak Dau of Dinka Panaruu attempt it so hard by making Dinka Panaruu to be called Ruweng, but this will never happen at all. Benjaim Mijak Dau of Dinka Panaruu made a useless speech to his people of Panaruu that Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom is a small with just six clans and it should not have a county. So, since from that time, all Dinka Panaruu called themselves Ruweng instead of Panaruu. This is wrong. Dinka Panaruu of Panrieng are not from Ruweng completely. What the wanted to do is just a political propaganda in which the wanted to turn down Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom. I condemn this fool arrangement which was been planned by Benjamin Mijak Dau and the leaders of Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei.

Now, all Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom are coming back to their territory Ruweng. Shame to all Dinka Panaruu and Dinka Jok of Ngok Abyei. To all Sudanese tribune readers, my message to all of you is that this comment of my is just only for the people of Panaruu who wanted to lost their Identity by calling themselves Ruweng instead of Panaruu and those of Dinka Jok of Abyei who were been fueling this case. I can be contacted at [email protected] or [email protected]

    Thanks.
