Torit security arrest man buying referendum cards from civilians

By Manyang Mayom

November 25, 2010 (JUBA) – State security personnel in Eastern Equatoria state have arrested two men alleged to bought referendum registration cards. One unidentified man was captured buying referendum a registration card from one young boy in Torit town.

Voter registration for the south’s vote on independence has been underway since November 15 and will run to December 1. It is widely expected that the south will opt to secede in the referendum, agreed as part of a 2005 peace deal.

According to Owen Bosco, an official reporter for the southern government in Torit said that the alleged suspect was seen negotiating the price for buying registration cards “when they were seen by the security personnel” and taken into custody.

An investigation has begun by the south Sudan security services to identify the man.

A police official in Torit who did not wish to be named told Sudan Tribune that “this incident will be made public after interrogation for public consumption”.

South Sudan government reporter Bosco said there had been a low turnout in the state with some communities boycotting the poll all together.

So Equatorians are still unaware of their freedom lurking at their doorsteps? That person who bought the ballots should be put in prison for 10 years.

    Folks,
Try not to generalize the entire community. This is an isolated incident and people should not make it as if it’s the entire community of Equatoria that do not know what is on stalk comes Jan. 9th next year.

    Bol,

You don’t have to be nosy to know what it mean when anyone mention Equatoria because two or three Equatorians can qualify for the term Equatorians.
We did not mean the whole tribe but the few who are called by the name Equatorian.
Thank anyway for sticking out your ding dong on this issue.

What a traitor. This person, whether a Southerner or a Northern must to die. The people of South Sudan can be moralistic on other issues but not on the issue of referendum. If we have promised on several instances to wage war on anyone obstructing the process of referendum including our enemies in the North, then the elimination of such individual/s is clearly justified. Referendum, as we always say is our life and therefore a matter of life or death.

However, the GOSS central and State governments must remain vigilent. Such rotten un-patriotic elements must be unrooted from within us.

During the voting period,SPLM should be smart enough. Everyone should be screen before enter to the voting room. There will be alot of duplications and such frauelent will be common too.second, who knows, if NCP will duplicated the voting cards and fake other identity that will back it up and give them to the dark skin ppl in the North and rig the vote for unity!

Tribalism is whats going to kill Southern Sudan before it even becomes a sovereign nation, some of the comments I’m readying are just ridiculous, bickering over nonsense. One isolated incident does not reflect a whole group pull your heads out of your asses and conduct yourself the key to a brand new nation will soon be given. wake up or the world will see the new nation of Southern Sudan as just another failed state in Africa
