Lakes state and Al Jazeera state sign cooperation and development agreements
By Manyang Mayom
November 25, 2010 (JUBA) – The Governor of Jazeera state, in north Sudan, Zabir Bashir, visited Lakes state in South Sudan for the first time on Wednesday to commit to cooperation between the two states’s with Governor Chol Tong Mayay.
During the discussion in Lakes state council of ministers on Wednesday afternoon, a number of cooperative activities were signed by the two Governors including capacity building training, agricultural and educational activities to be implemented by both states.
Jazeera state Governor Bashir told Sudan Tribune that “there are number of cooperation activities being carryout which include opportunities in education training and opportunities are made available – we will include students to obtain Degree in Jazeera University.”
In January the south votes to decide whether it will opt to secede from the north as part of a 2005 peace deal signed in Naivasha, Kenya.
“Yes, Naivasha has brought possibility for unity or separation but I hope if we lose unity, then we will not lose peace”, Bashir said.
There are fears that southern secession of a failure to implement the remaining aspects of the peace deal – including holding the southern referendum, a separate vote to decide whether the border region of Abyei joins the south, demarcating the border and reaching agreement on post-referendum issues such as oil, water, citizenship and national debt and assets – could see a return to north south conflict.
On Wednesday the south accused the north of bombing southern territory an allegation strongly denied by Sudan’s northern army.
Lakes state Governor Tong affirmed that the arrival of Jazeera state’s governor shows a good relationship between two states.
Tong said that “the relationship between Lakes and Jazeera state state will be accomplish on social economic phase as in high capacity term of education and agricultural fields”.
“We are reinforcing relationship in social activities such as education, agricultural and linkages on cooperation in delivery of services to people of Lakes state and to people of Al-Jazeeria state” said Bashir.
He added that Lakes state has been invited to make a reciprocal visit to Jazeera state.

Bravo Governor Chol Tong Mayay [Lakes]!
It is pleasing and beneficiary to have signed the treaty as well as cooperation and development with Al Jazeera state.
On the hand I don’t trust such payment of visit at this moment. Why is Governor Bashir paying visit only this yeaar?
Please you need to be very cautious and pay accurate attention.
What good thing will Aljazeera do to Lakes yet Separation is overwhelming?
It is like showing an empty bucket to a goat in order to grasp it.
It’s now a crucial time for referendum in Sudan which is exposing many Southerners in the north to torture, discrimination, human right abuse, and expulsion. Has governor Bashir ever voiced about these mistreatments of Southerners?
I hope not. This is like a Dinka saying that “a rat/mouse blows a cold anaesthetics on the part of the body that is smelling food and starts eating you without feeling pain now but later when it has gone.” The solution is to wash your hands with soap or ash after eating to eliminate odour of food.

Dear readers
This agreement between two states is just like ink on paper it doesn’t work. After referendum a big wall will be build along north-south border. We don’t want even skin of cat to be taken to the north.

Lakes State is being led by a Governor who doesn’t know anything about politics. More worse is the fact that he is the only leader still welcoming Northern leaders who have for long had so much hatred against the people of Southern Sudan.
These El Gezira people came here and they were welcomed at the airport of Rumbek as if they came to tell us that they have come to grant us our independence without having to go through the pain of organising a Referendum through hurdles. It will pain me more if these people go to report to Bashir how they came to fool the people of Rumbek, and the blame will fall on this Governor.
Dude.
