Some men in Lakes state not encouraging women to register for referendum: official

By Manyang Mayom

December 5, 2010 (RUMBEK) – The Lakes state Advisor for Gender and Human Right Affairs in the government of Ms. Adak Costa Mapuor is concerned that men are discouraging women from voting in south Sudan’s referendum on independence has improved throughout the states eight counties.

Some registration centers have reported a low turnout of women in Rumbek and in Lakes states eight counties. According to Mapuor “men are trying to sabotage women’s rights, which is not acceptable”.

Mapuor said that increase of women reported in the media could prove to be wrong. Large numbers of women voted in April’s election and they should play a large role again in the referendum she said.

Mapuor told Sudan Tribune that despite the issues thousands of women have turned out to register to vote in Lakes state.

She called upon southern women living in northern Sudan to support the separation of southern Sudan from the north.

The adviser said “let women of the north support us by making sure that separation had happened in South Sudan, we can live as two peaceful countries.”

She also asked northern women to support the south’s potential independence so that the north and south could live in peace as two separate countries.

Some two million people died in the last north-south civil war, which began in 1983 and ended with a 2005 peace deal that agreed on the south’s right to secede through a referendum in 2011.

Ha ha ha ha.That is a lie about men. No one man or woman in who southern in Sudan who had not tested the brutalism of NCP. Either by himself or through his/her family or relative had felt the sharia law. So I can’t belive that. We should just stop accusing each other at this time.

This is not an accurate information to tell the public that some men are encouraging women not to get register.
Maybe those men are unity supporters,so they do have right to compaign as long as they preach their fake unity peacefully without intimedation. But if these men are not compaigning neither unity nor separation, we need need Lake state law enforcement investigate this and find out why the men did that evil encouragement.

“The Lakes state Advisor for Gender and Human Right Affairs in the government of Ms. Adak Costa Mapuor”

The reporter of this news is a fool. He shouldn’t claim to be a journalist when he is suffering from lack of categorical and accurate reporting. The above quoted text is faulty and shows how naive and cheap this Manyang Mayom fellow is in the field of Education and Journalism. Adak Costa does not have a government of her own. He should have said…..”in the government of Lakes State,” not in the government of Adak Costa.

    Style up, man.

“men are trying to sabotage women’s rights, which is not acceptable”.

How can men do such? What evidence is there to prove that men are sabotaging women’s rights? Southern Sudan men and women alike, have both sexes not suffered from the Khartoum Islamic Government oppression? Is this the media gimmic I used to hear about, just to steal the show and access publicity?

    You are wrong madame Advisor.

    Dude.
