Former judge releases documentary on peaceful referendum

December 16, 2010 (JUBA) — As Southern Sudanese prepare for the much-anticipated self-determination referendum, a new documentary that advocates for a free, fair and peaceful process has been released and officially launched this Thursday.

The ‘Transformative Autonomy’ documentary, produced by Luris Richard Mulla, details the story of the African revolution in Sudan, with focus on the liberation struggle up to the time of the 2005 peace agreement and the current pre-referendum processes.

“The documentary is based on life experiences of some individuals who dedicated their lives to the struggle,” the 28-year Mulla, a former Juba county judge told a news conference on Thursday.

“It’s about the sense of identity and purpose to achieve certain objectives in real life situations,” she adds.

A production of The Devine Mind Limited, the documentary also features interviews with key Southern Sudan liberation figures like Joseph Lagu and Pagan Amum, currently the Secretary General of the south-ruling Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM).

The 40-50 minute movie, Sudan Tribune has learnt, is closely linked to Devine Mind; the first documentary done by the company, which emphasizes the concept of self identity.

“Well, my first movie was simply the story of a young girl struggling to reveal her true self. It was to make those who still think the once war torn country [Sudan] is still young to make their own judgment,” said Mulla, who became a judge as just 23 before retiring.

A renowned Ugandan local artist, Jose ‘Chameleon’ Mayanja, is expected to grace the public concert earmarked for Saturday at Nyakuron cultural center, while the VIP show is set for Friday at home and away hotel.
