South Sudan exams brought forward due to referendum

December 22, 2010 (BENTIU) – Primary school level examinations, that normally take place in January, have been brought forward to before Christmas in south Sudan as the region will vote on independence on January 9.
Only 11% of students at a primary school taking Sudan exams in Unity state are girls. Of the 366 students taking their Sudan exams at Rubkotna basic primary School, in Unity state, are 30 girls according to the headmaster.
In Unity state 2,189 primary school students are currently sitting the Sudan certificates of basic primary education for the year 2010.
Headmaster John kuok Nhia added that there was a problem with one the exams as a question had been left out. This had been raised at a high level with the examination committee, he said.
But Nhia said the examination is on going very well and hopeful completion on the 24th December 2010.
Candidate pupils from Salam-El-Eza in Rubkotna County told Sudan Tribune, the examinations were going well with only Christian Religion Education (C.R.E) being very difficult.
Minister of Education in Unity State, Them Kuol Machar, told Sudan Tribune on Wednesday that 2,189 pupils have sat the basic primary education certificate in the state this year.
He added, that the exams have been brought forward as south Sudan is scheduled to hold a referendum on independence as part of a 2005 peace deal.
Machar added that it was important to allow pupils who are 18 or over to participate in the referendum.

Was it a right time and standard for whole southern states?
Exam in Bentiu was conducted somehow on time,but the main challenge is standardization that suppose the whole southern state should set their exam in the same board as does in other nation to make primary leavers known widely in the country rather than doing it locally in the state that is not standard their certificate are written in pen not computerize is that right? never.
Thanks for this initiative regardless any challenges that will be overcome any time.

Good job to the government of Unity State and to the government of Southern Sudan as whole, for making Education a priority to our people.I believe we should soon make education our number one priority soon after referendum. It is essential that every child in South Sudan is send to school to prepare them for national responsibilities lying ahead, and also to prepare them as responsible citizens who will be able to make inform decissions that is completely free from any tribalism.(our own enemy!)
