Referendum materials dispatched in Western Equatoria

December 29, 2010 (YAMBIO) – The first boxes of vote ballot papers and stationery – left for the Nzara, Yambio and Ibba counties yesterday, in a move to finalize the last preparation for the 9 January Referendum.

The remaining materials will leave the State Referendum High Committee (SRHC) logistics stores in Yambio for the remaining counties today.

The SRHC will also start with training of polling officers by December 29, 2010, with about 40 Trainer of trainers expected from each county.

The chairperson for state High Referendum Committee Mr. Forojalla Sibrino on December 28, 2010 launched a two-day sorting and dispatch of the referendum materials in Yambio

Speaking at the dispatch venue Forojalla said “it is important to do the dispatch of the materials in the presence of the county representatives to ensure correct and quick job during the poling days.”

He promised to transport the materials to their various locations by land to avoid the delay of materials to the centers like in the registration adding that materials will have to reach the centers within 75 hours before the polling begins on January 9, 2011.

Southern Sudan will conduct a referendum on whether or not it should remain as a part of Sudan on 9 January 2011. This is part of the 2005 landmark peace deal which ended Africa’s longest civil unrest.

Referendum subcommittee chairman in Mundri East County, Mr. James Sapana urged SRHC “to maintain its promise for smooth running of referendum exercise.”

William Hai Zaza the Outreach Officer of SRHC said “We are on track,” adding that “County subcommittees will be responsible to dispatch the ballot papers to the various polling centers.”

Western Equatoria has 187 polling centers with 40 polling centers in Yambio the largest number in the state. Yambio is highly populated given host of seat of WES government.

SRHC officials told Sudan Tribune “[We] are far better organized than earlier this year when the election materials came very late. This time, all the materials will be at the sites ahead of time.”

Western Equatoria government maintains that in spite of purported insecurity by LRA rebels Ambororo the political landscape is similarly more conducive than earlier this year.

Both the LRA rebels and Ambororo have carried deadly attack just before and after Christmas in separate locations in Western Equatoria

Fears are mounting that the brutal Lord’s Resistance Army could destabilize Western Equatoria as it prepares for its critical referendum on secession.

The region has faced the external threat posed by the terrorist Lord’s Resistance Army for five years. The infamous rebel force from Uganda has historic ties to the northern government, an allegation which Khartoum has strongly dismissed.

The Referendum Voter Registration records from the Western Equatoria state Referendum High Committee released to the public claimed “high voter turnout in the state.”

John Ngiri, a resident of Nzara County who showed his registration card to Sudan Tribune said “The process is much smoother,” referring to the tussle over the ballot late arrival during the April elections.

Our hearts are full of joy and happiness as we are aproaching the nineth of january.
Congratulation for the above mentioned subject, and to the entire orgonizers of this important event.

My apeal to all the Southern Sudanese is that, the nineth of January will fall on Sunday, therefore we should not forget to go and pray to God Almighty first, then proceed to go and vote. And when you will be voting dont hide it,take apride and just vote for seperation while anyone is seing what you have vote for.
I WILL NOT HIDE MY VOTING PAPER,I WILL VOTE FOR SEPERATION INFRONT OF ANYONE BECAUSE THAT IS MY CHOICE!!!
Let us be acompany by the Devine help of God so that we will prosper in our new nation.

Secondly,we all know, that the Khartoum regime and all the arab nation dosen’t want the smooth arrangement of the referendum:
Therefore, our soldiers should be more elert durring the poling days especialy in the greater Western Equatoria.
LRA,Ambororo and the anti-peace the satanic weak-hearted people who dosen’t want the peace in Western Equatoria are there.

This are the group which can be the stumbling block towards our promised lands.
Please I urge all of us to put this in our prayers request and should be in position that this will not be a suprise to understood that, there are people who dosen’t sleep day and night thinking of how they will spoil this referendum.
TAKE NOTE PLEASE AND DON’T TREAT THIS COMMENT SIMPLE.

    J Kamunde.
