January 6, 2011 (RUMBEK) – The Lakes state security services have captured a senior member of Sudan People’s Liberation Movement – Democratic Change (SPLM-DC) in Wulu county, Lakes state for buying voter referendum registration cards.
Dubo is alleged to have bought more cards from civilians in remote villages around Wulu county headquarters.
The South Sudan Referendum Act states that a re-vote must be taken unless at least 60% of those who have registered to vote do so, within 60 days. “What would happen if a second vote did not meet the minimum voter turnout is not stipulated”.
Speaking to press from his office, Governor Chol Tong Mayay, said that Dudo was arrested by security agents. Tong told Lakes state registered voters to secure their referendum voter cards.
The governor said that his “message to people of Wulu” was to not “sell your land” to the “enemies of the freedom of Southern Sudan” which was bought with the “bloodshed of millions.”
He affirmed that “our security service have captured 909 referendum voter registration cards in house of SPLM-DC chairman in Wulu” and that “this is evidence that people are trying to distort the South Sudan referendum by all means.”
Commissioner of Wulu county, Gideon Shilur Mbele said that “freedom cannot be sold.” He urged the Wulu community to respect the martyrs of war who fought for 22 years, for the future of Southern Sudan.
Shilur said that those accepting money for their voter registration card should consider that the people of Wulu county and Southern Sudan as a whole have been “marginalized by the Khartoum government” and that it is “time to vote for future” rather than “sell your freedom for money.”
The commissioner added that Dubo had recently returned from a year in Khartoum and after spending only two days in remote villages, was arrested and is now the responsibility of security personnel.
Wulu county, which is located to the south of Rumbek, the capital of Lakes state, elected two independent candidates into Lakes State Legislative Assembly during the April 2010 election. Southern Sudan’s ruling party the Sudan Peoples’ Liberation Movement denied the Wulu community a ministerial seat in Lakes state cabinet.

Why don’t you tell what Isaac Akot said when he was asked why was he buying the cards, who sent him, from where is he, when was he sent to the state? All these would help us understand this article. There is nobody that can be detained without being investigated.

I want to worn all of you, that we southerners with our tribes need to be united don’t be decieved by a dirty dog sent from the dog house (north Sudan) to disturbed us and bring a tribal conflict which they always desire to destabilize the peace which is yet to come to our respective country south Sudan. lam-akolThe authorities in Wulu county of Lakes state have detained a leading member of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-Democratic Change (SPLM-DC), accusing the member of buying Referendum voting cards from the public.
The authorities say they found the accused person in possesion of more than ninty (90) registration cards. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the SPLM-DC, Peter Ouduk, refuted the charges. Ouduk told Radio Miraya that there is no reason for the party to buy cards.

Oh my God is it trues SPLM-DC buying voter referendum registration cards from civilians in remote areas?!?!? This is not good at all GOSS need to put military to all remote villages cross southern Sudan before and after January 9-15 to securing entire region.
I personal I degree with those of you who saying that people who sold their voting cards will be put death penalty, but guys remember these people who are in remote villages they are not educated.They don’t know what important of this referendum, because if they do know, they shouldn’t choose money instead of their freedom. For those of us who really know what going on in Sudan if somebody come with one million dollars to buy our vote cards we will not excited because we know what is happening and what this referendum mean to us and our people. In my opinion, these people who sold their freedom voting card will be arrested and punching.
In the eye of law, Lam Akol and his SPLM-DC members deserved a death penalty, because they are trying to selling out people and our motherland to Arab in Khartoum. Shame to Lam Akol I pray to God one day God will punish him for criminal act against with his own people.

I appreciated your advice you make. “You said, I don’t want to get myself involved in politics if I do want to help people of south Sudan.” I am not involving myself in politics my friend, because the organization that I am running here in U.S.A is non-governmental organization because it is non-profit organization. I was consenting about dirty work Lam Akol with his Party so called SPLM-DC are doing for buying vote registration cards from people in Villages to give them to Khartoum government and our people are seeking for freedom. This referendum doesn’t mean anything to you? Because our people died for it. Also we have been fighting, and struggling over decade for our independence. 2 millions people lost their lives and 4 millions people flew their home.
