Voters turn out in Unity state has reached 99%
January 17, 2011 (JUBA) – Voter turn out in the Sudan’s oil-rich Unity state has reached 99%, according to the latest figure released by the top official of the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission in the state.
Unity state registered the most voters out of all Sudan’s 25 with over half a million people registered. The Chairman of the referendum State High Committee, Michael Mayil Chol, on Monday reported that 494,196 voters (98.8%) had casted their votes. He added that the figure could go close to 100% as some voting centers in remote parts of the nine counties had not yet collected their final figures.
In a live statement on Southern Sudan Television, the Chairman of the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission, Professor Ibrahim Mohamed Khalil, said the preliminary overall figure had shown that 97% voter’s turnout had been achieved in Southern Sudan.
He added that in the Diaspora about 91% and in the north a 54% of voter turnouts were achieved, respectively. The Commission’s top official further explained that the overall figure could slightly change after receiving all the final reports on the overall turnout.
Initial results from various centers have also shown an overwhelming vote for secession.

This is really a mere “wreckless” news in Unity State. If 99% show up like it appear in Unity State voting ballots during the time when SPLM/SPLA was fighting with the Khartoum Government, then I hope the Southern Sudanese people should not have the stance of voting for Secession in this current time. Arabs could have already gone if that 99% joined their hands together with the SPLM/SPLA instead of rebeling. To me, that 99% is just like a student whose marks in Exam was marked wrong by the teacher and then, afterward, when the student complaint about his marks, the teacher make a correct and give him 99%. That is exactly what happened in Unity State. After all, I don’t like the way Unity State is made as a place for those who rebels from the SPLM/SPLA. So, if it happen like that, then what about Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom people who have never rebel against the SPLM/SPLA since when the war started in 1983 until this time?
Will they be considered as rebels too? I wanted to beg the whole Southern Sudanese people that Dinka Ruweng Community of Biemnom are in Unity State, but please do not associate this community in list of those communities which were rebelled during the Movement. I loves my native Ruweng because they have never rebel in the movement.

“To our confused brothers or Tribalists”
I am not going to mention your name individualy here because you guys already knew yourself by heart. I understand that tribalism have blurred your vission and blocked your rational thinking. But when will you guys understand that your tribal mindset is not doing us we the bretherns in Southern Sudan any goods? It doesn’t takes any higher awareness that this cultural virus that you guys are preaching endlessly is not healthy at all, not for you and not for anyone else. For those of you who have the hearts and minds to make sense with the realities, please put this backwardness called tribalsim to an end. Our young Nation’s future will all be in vain if we don’t stop our ignorances of dividing ourselves base on tribal line.
