Sudan is committed to bolster bilateral relations with Ethiopia, envoy
ADDIS ABABA, May 19, 2004 (Waltainfo) — The Sudanese ambassador to Ethiopia said Sudan is committed to bolster bilateral relations with Ethiopia.
Ambassador Osman El-Sayed Fadal El-Seed told Walta Information Centre that his country has set multi-sectoral cooperation with Ethiopia as its priority agendas.
The ambassador said his country is currently engaged in infrastructural development that would help to realize mutual cooperation and development.
According to the ambassador, a road that connects Qadarif town of Sudan to Metema of Ethiopia is under construction, while efforts are under way to upgrade telecommunication services.
The two countries have now begun border trade and the Sudanese are buying grains and mineral water from Ethiopia, he said, adding that preparations are also under way to supply electric power to the Sudan.
The ambassador denounced all terrorist attacks supported by Eritrea and perpetuated against Ethiopia and reiterated Sudan’s commitment to clear its land from harbouring perpetrators.
According to the Ambassador, Sudan condemns anti-peace activities perpetrated by the Oromo Liberation Front (OLF) from its territories.
Sudan has reported to the African Union and the United Nations about Eritrea’s intentions to disrupt peace in neighbouring countries by recruiting and supporting terrorists, the ambassador said.
The ambassador also noted that Sudan is closely collaborating with Ethiopia in security matters.
He said Sudan believes that Ethiopia has equal right to the use of the Nile River and his country has interest to work together towards this effort.
As far as the agreement on the use of Nile signed between the Sudan and Egypt is concerned, he said the agreement does not prohibit Ethiopia from using the river.
The ambassador said the peace process between the Sudanese government and the SPLA [rebel Sudanese People’s Liberation Army] group is well under way and Ethiopia has been playing a major role for its success.
