Six killed in raid on village in Jonglei state

January 24, 2011 (BOR) – At least 6 people are dead, 6 wounded and a child abducted in Bor county when gunmen raided a village early on Saturday, officials say.

Kuol Bol Ayom, a member of Jonglei state legislative assembly, told the Sudan Tribune on Sunday that a village called Kot-Aluel in his Athor North constituency was attacked by what he describes as “armed bandits” at 1am local time on Saturday killing 3 men. He also said they “managed to run away with a 5 year old child.”

“The local people, acting in self-defense, killed 3 criminals,” said Ayom. “Six people are wounded, 3 seriously,” he added.

173 goats are stolen and 57 granaries of sorghum burnt, the legislator claimed. Families have been displaced as raiders burnt huts in the village close to bank of the White Nile.

Cattle raiding and child abduction are common in Jonglei state’s pastoralist communities. In 2009, more than 2,000 died in series of tribal feuds which government says were facilitated by poverty and competition over limited resources. But the scale declined in 2010, with some Jonglei citizens putting this down to a focus on South Sudan’s referendum on independence.

However, Sunday’s raid is the latest example of the raiding that has blighted Jonglei.

The most important thing i hate is child Abduction.
My community fight too many tribes in eastern Equatoria because of cattle rustling, but no child abduction, this is against God.
Those primitive criminals have to bring child back.

Theirs ringleader riched himself with abducted Child Girls, no In-Laws at all. The Government should confiscate his property or let him join Athor in the Jungle.

GOSS Police is toothlessand can not even try to search for Criminal as it is Dry Season.
